SUPER STAR
Matshikos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My friend is a superstar
No mater what you do
No matter what you say
You will never change him
That's the way he is
Just the way he is

Oh he's a superstar
Many people around the country
Recognize his stardom
But some are on the same scale as him
Ignore his ability

Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)
Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)
Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)
Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)

Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)
Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)
Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)
Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)
Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)
Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)
Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)

Jealousy won't change him
Lets give him what he deserves
The man deserves to be faced
He could do us the oner down
Let be is a superstar
He's a superstar

Oh he's a superstar
Many people around the country
Recognize his stardom
But some are on the same scale as him
Ignore his ability

Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)
Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)
Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)
Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)
Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)
Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)
Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)

My friend is a superstar
No mater what you do
No matter what you say
You will never change him

Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)
Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)
Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)
Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)
Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)
Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)
Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)

Uthatha ama chance (ama chance ayo)
Yilowona nomona (uthatha amachance)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Matshikos's song "Super Star" express admiration and pride for a friend who is a well-known celebrity. The singer acknowledges that no matter what anyone says or does, they will never be able to change this person. The friend's stardom is recognised by many people across the country but some choose to ignore his abilities. The repeated phrase "Yilowona nomona" meaning "he goes up and down" paired with "uthatha ama chance" which translates to "taking a chance" reminds listeners that the friend's success has its ups and downs and that he takes risks to maintain his status. The singer suggests that rather than being jealous or trying to bring the friend down, they should support and celebrate his success while acknowledging that "he could do us the oner down", meaning that he has the potential to outshine others.

The song promotes the idea that we should appreciate and respect the accomplishments of our friends and associates, even if they are more successful than us. It encourages us to celebrate the success of others instead of feeling envious or resentful. The singer seems to be suggesting that being content with oneself and one's achievements is the key to success and happiness rather than constantly comparing oneself to others. The song also addresses the idea that true talent and hard work should be acknowledged and appreciated, instead of ignored or overlooked.
