Growing up in Perth-Andover, you learn a thing or two about the tough grind.
The family-oriented, blue-collar community is home to singer-songwriter and
guitarist Matt Andersen. While manual labour wasn't his calling, hard work is
something you pride yourself on growing up in a small-town. Having played over
200 shows in 2012, his work ethic has never been questioned.
Matt’s narrative-driven writing cuts through the soul, blending blues and folk,
encompassed in total honesty. He takes listeners on a ride with his diverse
musical styles, skilled guitar work and over-the-top showmanship. Matt's
intimate, high-energy performances have captivated audiences across the world,
from Canada, to the US, to Australia and the UK, from small clubs to festivals.
In 2011 Matt released Coal Mining Blues, produced by Colin Linden. The album
was recorded at the Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, New York and features
keyboardist Garth Hudson (The Band) and singer Amy Helm (Olabelle). The
songs delve into the lives of the working class and the bonds he shares with
mining communities, family and friends back home. The moving title track paints
a clear picture of the blood, sweat and tears of a backbreaking trade.
“I’m not trying to change anyone’s lives in a big way, but I love it when [listeners]
really get involved in the music,” says Matt, who won three 2012 Maple Blues
Awards and received a British Blues Award nomination, among many others.
“When people get involved, it really makes it a great night — for
everyone.” Through his exhilarating performances and connection to his
audience, Matt continues to work hard and tell the stories he was born to tell.
Rollin' Home
Matt Andersen Lyrics

Until I see the mornin' light
I'm gonna roll roll roll
Until I've got you in my sights
I'll pack my bags and I'll be gone
Back to where I'm from
I'm rollin' home
Like a whirlwind down the road
I'm gonna roll roll roll
Until I'm knockin' on your door
Will you come down and let me in
And say hello to a weary friend?
Well I've been on the road so long
There's one that gets me through
That's knowin' everytime I go away
I'll be comin' back home to you
I'm gonna roll roll roll
And be in before the dawn
I'm gonna roll roll roll
Won't you leave that porch light on?
It'll be good to see you my friend
Until I roll again
I'm rollin' home
I'm rollin' home
In Matt Andersen's song Rollin' Home, he sings about his longing to return to his home after being away for a long time. The song starts with the repetition of "I'm gonna roll roll roll," which creates a sense of urgency and determination to reach his final destination. He emphasizes that he will keep moving until he reaches his goal, which is to see the morning light and to have his loved one in his sights.
Andersen then talks about how he will pack his bags and return to where he is from. He is determined to go back home and he uses the repetition of "I'm rollin' home" to signify that his mind is made up. He describes himself as a whirlwind down the road, which implies that he is moving quickly and efficiently as he makes his way back home.
As the song progresses, Andersen talks about his desire to be let back into his home and to interact with his loved one again. He expresses his need for companionship, saying that he is a weary friend who needs comforting. He has been on the road for so long that he just wants to be home and surrounded by familiar faces.
The song ends with Andersen saying that he will keep rolling until he reaches his destination. He asks his friend to leave the porch light on to guide him and create a sense of welcoming. He signs off with a simple statement, "I'm rollin' home," which reaffirms his need to be in his own personal haven.
