High As The Night

I wanna fall from grace with you
I don't wanna think tonight
I just wanna escape this place with you
We don't need anything
We don't even need tomorrow
Come or let go
Hold on or let go
Inhibition dead and gone
There's nothing left to lose
With bad intention
I take hold of you
We get high as the night
We get high as the night
Do you wanna learn to fly
Cause I really wanna fly with you
How does it feel so good
So good that I could die with you
We don't need anything
We don't even need tomorrow
Come or let go
Hold on or let go
Inhibition dead and gone
There's nothing left to lose
With bad intention
I take hold of you
We get high as the night
We get high as the night
We'll be there together
Move into the light
It's not forever
We've only tonight
From light as a feather
Burning so bright
We'll be there together
As high as the night
I don't wanna feel tonight
I wanna fall from grace with you
I don't wanna think tonight
I just wanna escape this place with you
We get high as the night
We get high as the night
We'll be there together
Move into the light
It's not forever
We've only tonight
From light as a feather
Burning so bright
We'll be there together
As high as the night
In "High As The Night" by Matt Cardle, the lyrics express a desire to escape from reality and live in the moment with a loved one. The singer doesn't want to feel or think, instead seeking to fall from grace and escape their current reality with their partner. The longing for a deep connection and the willingness to let go of inhibitions to experience a sense of freedom and release is evident throughout the song.
The repeated refrain "We don't need anything, we don't even need tomorrow" emphasizes the temporary nature of this shared experience and the focus on the present moment. The theme of letting go and allowing oneself to be consumed by the intensity of the moment is highlighted in lines like "Inhibition dead and gone, there's nothing left to lose." The singer is willing to embrace the risk and uncertainty that comes with indulging in this fleeting euphoria.
The imagery of soaring and flying together symbolizes the freedom and exhilaration that comes with being with a person who brings out the best in you. The intense emotions and physical sensations are likened to being as high as the night, drawing a parallel between the darkness and the sense of being lifted to a higher state of being. The idea of living without boundaries and consequences in the present moment is encapsulated in the desire to escape and experience a transcendent connection.
The final verses of the song convey a sense of unity and shared experience, with the singers moving towards the light and reveling in the fleeting nature of their time together. The raw passion and intensity of the emotions are likened to burning bright and light as a feather, indicating both the weightlessness and intensity of the shared experience. The overall message of the song is about savoring the present moment and experiencing a profound connection with another person, even if just for one night, as they soar together as high as the night.
