PILLS
Medications Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Congratulations
Predictability has saved us

Please send cash and patients to the address on your paper
Yeah, we'll talk about your father soon
Just take these pills, but wait till you get home

You'll sleep better for it tonight

We will suppress what's best
For yours and mine it's fine
It may well be that cold traumatic past
But, everything is neurological

I'll sleep better on softer sheets
Cantilevered on the sanctity
Of disease, as research proved,
These purple ones can surely do no harm

And the studies show that it is all right

Don't be surprised
He'll act his size
Propose that we jack him up with speed

Curb his daydreams
We'll kill his creativity, besides, at
Eight years old he pays no mind
Needs artificial catalysts to grow

Keep your head right
Self locked up tight
He will thank you
No more waiting and waiting

So still now...
No worse now... all your own...
Needs cared for...
All your own needs pleased for a fee as well
Congratulations... so still
We will suppress... no Worse
Don't be surprised... all yours
Eight years old pays... no mind

This will keep your head right
Your self locked up so tight
You will be thankful

Unless you're still waiting and waiting

Overall Meaning

The song "Pills" by Medications is a critique of the pharmaceutical industry and the over-reliance on medication to solve all of our problems. The opening lyrics, "predictability has saved us, congratulations," suggests that society has become so reliant on medication that it is seen as an accomplishment to be able to predict and treat any ailment with pills. The line "we will suppress what's best for yours and mine it's fine" speaks to the idea that the pharmaceutical industry does not always have the patient's best interest at heart, but instead prioritizes profit.

The lyrics also touch on the issue of medicating children, with lines like "curb his daydreams, we'll kill his creativity, besides, at eight years old he pays no mind" suggesting that children are being over-medicated and not allowed to develop naturally. The line "needs artificial catalysts to grow" is particularly poignant in its critique of the widespread use of drugs to treat children's behavioral issues.

Throughout the song, there is a sense of unease and discomfort, with the repeated phrase "keep your head right, self locked up tight" suggesting that medication is being used not only to treat physical ailments but also to suppress emotions and keep people compliant. The final lines of the song, "unless you're still waiting and waiting" leave the listener with a sense of unease and the realization that medication may not always be the best solution.

Overall, "Pills" is a thought-provoking commentary on the pharmaceutical industry and the way in which medication is often used as a quick fix solution without addressing underlying issues.

@Etherealplanets

I am a diabetic and was put on anemic for 1 year. It was horrible and finally I lost much of my head of hair with bright red scalp with scaring white patches. I did loose about 30 lbs and still am suffering from same nausea etc 3 weeks after stopped. The withdrawals are like a heroin addict. Will continue cutting down on carbs and sugar. Will never take any of these drugs again!!!

@missytechlp

Rybelsus is ozempic in pill form. Was an awesome help to lower my a1c from 12.4 to 6.5 in one year. Insurance dropped it from their formulary at the 12 month mark. I lost weight while on this pill but that involved working out 3 times a week and changing my eating habits as well.

@CB_NekoGirl

Even if you're on ozempic if you eat poorly you can still gain weight on it. So this is not a free pass to go binge on whatever you want to eat. I should know because I'm on it for my type 2 diabetes. I did start to lose weight at first and then I started to eat very poorly and because of that the weight did come back even though I'm still taking ozempic. The ozempic can do but so much. What people have to do is eat right and exercise. This is what I decided to do for my health because I don't want to be on ozempic for the rest of my life for my diabetes. So while I'm still taking this, I'm going to use this to help me eat healthy. So I don't have to continue to take this. Because again this medicine is still experimental; the long-term effects could turn out to be bad. They should make this to be a combo policy; that while you're taking this you have to be with a program that teaches you how to eat right.

@anniehills3580

Will it work for fat diseases or disorders like Dercums disease?? Dr Karen Herbst is studying this.

@madrush24

I do only eat salad everyday and exercise and don't lose weight. It's genetic. This was a game changer to get my body at a healthy weight where better workouts were even possible.

@itssatya.8302

Then what did you do to loose weight

@abarzua21able

I know my husband takes trulicity and he has gained weight. He's been to heart specialist to make sure its not his heart. He explained he actually has poor eating to gain weight is crazy. When he does eat, he eats very small portions. He craves sugar and its because his body isnt making enough sugar.

@winterfavorite6260

Ozempic is very effective in lowering my A1C but i did not lose weight. No nausea or vomiting.But i craved more food no weight loss.

@Blessed1RG
