The Unknown Soldier
Meece David Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You see him on the campus
As he studies with his friends
They mean no harm, they laugh
And call him preacher now and then

His words are few, he saves them
'Til he's home and on his knees
That's where he's a warrior
And he fights to see them free

He's the unknown soldier
The unsung hero, the brother on the street
He's the unknown soldier
The holy warrior who will never sound retreat

He's your unseen comrade
And his triumph will be sweet
He's the unknown soldier

There's been no bloody torture
No burning at the stake
There will be no published memoirs
No memorial for his sake

And no one calls him martyr
His blood has not been shed
Still in combat he's been faithful
In the little things instead

He's the unknown soldier
The unsung hero, the brother on the street
He's the unknown soldier
The holy warrior who will never sound retreat

He's your unseen comrade

And his triumph will be sweet
He's the unknown soldier

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Meece David's song, "The Unknown Soldier," tell the story of an unnamed man who is both a student and a spiritual warrior. The song describes the man as unassuming but deeply devoted to his faith, saving his words for when he is alone and on his knees. Though he has not experienced physical torture or martyrdom, he is still a soldier in his own way, fighting for his beliefs and the freedom of others. Despite the lack of recognition for his efforts, the song suggests that his triumph will be sweet in the end.

The imagery in the song suggests that the man is not well-known or respected by his peers, who teasingly call him "preacher" and may not fully understand his beliefs. However, this lack of recognition does not diminish the significance of his actions. The song emphasizes that he is a hero, an unsung warrior fighting for what he believes in. The idea of an "unknown soldier" is often used to mourn and honor soldiers who have fallen in battle, but this song takes the concept in a different direction, elevating the quiet but steadfast efforts of those who fight for their beliefs without fanfare or recognition.

This is probably my favorite song by David Meece.

Such a wonderful song about "prayer warriors" such as grandparents, and parents that mostly go unnoticed by most people. God sees and rewards the faithful "prayer warriors".

Beautiful song. It´s the way it should be. The faithfulness of a pastor shows the time he spends alone with his God, just like Jesus did. Great rythm. Deep meaning.
