Raised in the North Philadelphia section of the city with his sister and inspired by his mother and father; who died when he was five, Meek Mill began taking the rap game seriously at the age of 12 after losing a street battle to neighboring rappers. He says his desire to rap grew after watching his uncle Philly hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Nell. While hanging out in his neighborhood, Meek met three guys and formed the group, โBloodHoundz,โ which consisted of Mel Love, Dat Nigga Leel and Young Pooh. The group lasted for fives years and Meek ventured on his own.
With a solo career in tow, Meek became one of Philadelphiaโs hottest underground rap artists on an independent label. In 2007, Meek debuted his Flamerz series, which stands for hottest songs and released his first mix tape, Flamerz 1, which featured the hit single, โIn My Bag.โ
In 2008, Meek debuted the highly anticipated Flamerz 2 โโHottest In Da City,โ which showcased more of his lyrical abilities with the singles, โSo Fly,โ โProlli,โ and โHottest In Da City.โ Upon release of Flamerz 2, it caught the attention of founder and President of 215Aphillyated Records, Charlie Mack. Mack was immediately impressed with Meek that he signed him to his management company. During the same year, he met the founder and owner of Grand Hustle, TI. TI was impressed with his lyrical ability that he offered him an opportunity to travel to Los Angeles to meet with him along with the Warner Brothers Records, within one week both record companies offered him a deal. Meek was overwhelmed by the offers; however, he felt collaborating with TI was an opportunity of a lifetime and chose his label. An ecstatic Meek was on top of the world; a record deal and the chance to work with one of hip hopโs greatest rappers and then a set back occurred. He was arrested, charged with a crime and order to serve seven months in jail.
Meek pre-released three singles from his third mix tape Flamerz 2.5 โ โThe Previewโ in August of 2009, which featured the chart topping hits, โMake โEm Say,โ โImma Da Ish,โ featuring Ms. Jade and โStarting Something,โ in honor Michael Jackson. Within the first two weeks of its release, Clear Channel added it to their play list, which is an anomaly in the music business. In June of 2009, Meek began immediately working on his freshman album โ Flamerz 3, โHottest In America โ Gangster Grill Edition,โ hosted by DJ Drama and featuring the songs: โBaby Girl,โ โHottest In America,โ and โIโm Killinem.โ The highly anticipated cd is set to be released on January 19, 2010. Despite his stint in jail, Meekโs fans remained loyal, he currently boasts of 13 million hits on My Space and 20 million viewers on You Tube. Meek Mill has recently just signed to Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group.
In the future, Meek plans to establish the Meek Mill Foundation, which will mentor young males between the ages of 12-24 on the importance of โEducation over Incarceration.โ He gives a shoutout to the next artist coming up named shizz.. He also plans to collaborate with United Community Action Network and the Lifers of Graterford Prison to address the violence plaguing our cities. 2015 - BEEF WITH DRAKE
In July 2015 Meek attempted to air out Drake for "not writing his own raps" via popular social media site Twitter. These tweets resulted in a huge reaction from the hip hop community, however, the stunt went awry when Drake (Aubrey Graham) decided to respond. Drake released the diss track "Charged Up" during an Apple Music stream and an immediate response from Meek was demanded. Funkmaster Flex announced he would debut Meek's response live on Hot97. However, the track never came. After four days there was still no sign of a response from Meek, prompting Drake to release a second diss track "Back To Back." The response to this was huge and a harsh blow to Meek's career. Two days later Meek finally released "Wanna Know." This track received largely negative reviews and it was clear to most that Drake had won the beef. On August 2nd at the annual OVOfest, Drake truly roasted Meek Mill; performing "Back To Back" in front of various memes poking fun at Meek to a raucous Toronto crowd. Many fans believed this to be the nail in the coffin spelling the end for Meek's career.

Meek Mill Lyrics

Ain't I ain't I ain't I
Ain't I on some shit
Ain't I fuck your bitch
Ain't I Grand Hustle
Ain't I fuck with TIP
Drama be the DJ
I come from the east side, run shit like a relay
Bunch of Philly killers with me they all look like Freeway
I know what we do is wrong
You can catch me in the hood probably somewhere don't belong
I keep with my tre pound long
And Omelly keep his glit
His clip hold like 33 that's three circles from a brick
On some shit, that's your bitch
No it ain't cause she ours
Pull up to the club we be on Banshees and CRs
Ask about us who we are
I'm a young king I'm wassup
I ain't asking for no ride I made it here all by myself
Come for the belt ya for the ring
Ask your ho I do my thing
I was locked up in the pen but still I shine like I was bling
On the block with that Yao Ming
Tryna move that China white
Ya I grind like I ain't even about to blow like dynamite
I'm that [?] just call me Mike
I change hoes just like they're clothes
I change O's just like they're floors
And keep my money for them hoes
I keep money on re-load
I keep cash up in this stack
I don't even know these lames but yet they Joe me like Jihad
And I just laugh
Joe me like GI
Bitch I'm trying to fuck you, you keep worrying about TI
Haters they can see I'm all about my BI
Bitch I been on swag [?]
Ain't I on my job
Lotta niggas hate cause we be moving like the mob
My boys in all black
Nigga run his mouth then then nigga lose his cap
West Philly back block that's where you find me at
State they got my nigga Dean
I be on promethazine
Show you how we walk them down
No time with them triple beams
I get a jawn break it down let my youngins grind
You see them tres of the meter, and they done with dime
You had your work all week shit I hustle mine
I hustle hard, hustle hard I ain't never fine
I just hit a lick, all white bricks
Fuck the drought we be flipping like a light switch
Ask my nigga [?] he got a [?]
We like a junkyard, we stay with metal shit
I can do it right or I can do it wrong
You buy it soft, try to cook it you be losing homes
Neef Buck told me get them where I fit in
The mac look great but its gorgeous with the clip in
And when it start to ripping, niggas start to scraping
And dipping, hoping they don't catch it in their biscuit
West side of Philly nigga that be me
Disrespect and we check 'em like an ACG
They say your green not fire
Your white not oil
You niggas at loyal when you shining like foil
The chorus of this song is repetitive, suggesting that the artist knows who he is, what he's about, and what he's capable of. He asks "Ain't I" repeatedly, asserting himself and his capabilities at every turn. Meek Mill speaks about being on his grind and moving in such a way that others hate him because he moves like the mob. He also mentions how he tends to do things his own way regardless of right or wrong. Meek Mill is also shown to be quite protective of his territory and will show out if it is threatened.
The first verse of this song is about where Meek Mill is from, how he moves, and who he moves with. He clearly states his affiliation with the Grand Hustle crew and TIP. Meek Mill says that he will make his points stick and when he is in the hood, he is not afraid to defend himself. He keeps his tre pound close by and fully loaded, adding to his defense. Meek Mill also mentions the type of music he makes and how he moves from city to city with ease.
Overall, this song is about Meek Mill asserting his strength, his worth, and his territory. He has no fear and will protect his people no matter what.
