À Tout Le Monde
Megadeth feat. Christina Scabbia Lyrics

Don't remember where I was
I realized life was a game
The more seriously I took things
The harder the rules became
I had no idea what it'd cost
My life passed before my eyes
I found out how little I accomplished
All my plans denied

So as you read this, know my friends
I'd love to stay with you all
Please smile when you think of me
My body's gone, that's all

À tout le monde
À tous mes amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partir
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

If my heart was still alive
I know it would surely break
And my memories left with you
There's nothing more to say
Moving on is a simple thing
What it leaves behind is hard
You know the sleeping feel no more pain
And living all are scarred

À tout le monde
À tous mes amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partir
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

So as you read this
Know my friends
I'd love to stay with you all (you all)
Please smile, smile when you think about me
My body's gone that's all

À tout le monde
À tous mes amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partir
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

À tout le monde
À tous mes amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partir
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

These are the last words

I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

Overall Meaning

"A Tout Le Monde" by Megadeth is a song about the concept of death and how living is a game we all have to play. The singer of the song reflects on his life and how he took it too seriously, causing the rules of the game to become harder as time went on. He's telling his friends to smile and remember him after he dies, and that moving on is a simple thing but leaving behind everything that mattered is hard.

The lyrics show a poignant acceptance of death, but not in a nihilistic sense. Instead, the singer accepts that death is inevitable and that they must now move on to the next phase of their existence. The song is a reminder that life is short and that we should cherish every moment, treating the people we love with kindness and respect.

Interestingly, the song was originally written in French by Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine and then translated into English. Mustaine has said that the lyrics were inspired by his experiences on tour, where he often felt homesick and longed to be with his loved ones. The song has become one of the most popular in the Megadeth catalog, and it remains a staple of the band's live shows to this day.
