Run To The Hills
Metalachi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes killed our creed
He took our game for his own need

We fought him hard we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came too much for Cree
Oh will we ever be set free?

Riding through dust clouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom the stab in the back
Women and children are cowards attack

Run to the hills, run for your lives
Run to the hills, run for your lives

Soldier blue in the barren wastes
Hunting and killing their game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good Indians are tame
Selling them whiskey and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old

Run to the hills, run for your lives

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Metalachi's song Run to the hills, strongly condemn the actions of white settlers as they crossed the sea and came to America. They brought pain, misery and death to the Native American tribes. The lyrics speak of the fight and struggle that the tribes put up against the settlers, but it was not enough as there were too many settlers. The tribes were forced to flee and hide in their holes.

The lyrics convey the violence and brutality that took place as soldiers tracked and hunted down the "redskins". The soldiers were merciless, killing women and children too. The lyrics accuse soldiers of raping women and killing men for their own entertainment. They sold whiskey and took gold from the Native Americans as well as enslaving the young and destroying the older generation.
