Don't You Know
Michael Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've done the things
You couldn't do
I've taken more than a life or two
I stood at the front door
While your sound asleep
I fought off the wolves
So you could keep dreaming
I feel like a number out here on my own
I can't feed this hunger I'm so far from home
I stood in the fire and I walked through the storm
Fighting for freedom is something I know
It's a pain you don't know
I've got my demons
They won't let me be
I guess that's the price I paid
Cause freedom ain't free (no)
I feel like a number out here on my own
I can't feed this hunger I'm so far from home
I stood in the fire and I walked through the storm
Fighting for freedom is something I know
It's a pain you don't know
Nobody listens
They don't understand
How I left with my innocence
Now there's blood on my hands
I feel like a number out here on my own
I can't feed this hunger I'm so far from home
I stood in the fire and I walked through the storm
Fighting for freedom is something I know
It's a pain you don't know

Fighting for freedom is something I know
It's a pain you don't know

Overall Meaning

In Michael Bublé's song "Don't You Know," the singer expresses his feelings of unrequited love for someone who thinks they know him well but does not truly know him or his deepest desires. The song describes the conflict between the singer's outward persona and his internal emotions. When the object of his affection greets him and offers her hand, his heart races with excitement and anticipation. However, he knows that the woman sees him only as a friend and that his true feelings for her will remain unreciprocated.

Throughout the song, the singer expresses his regret for not taking a chance and telling the woman how he truly feels about her. He believes that she would have been receptive to his advances, but his shyness and fear kept him from acting on his emotions. The singer also acknowledges that he has never experienced the joy of physical intimacy with the woman he loves. Despite his longing and heartache, he resigns himself to being just a friend and watches as she walks away with another man, painfully aware that she will never truly know him or the depth of his love.

Overall, "Don't You Know" is a poignant expression of unrequited love, conveying the sense of longing, regret, and heartache that accompany unfulfilled desires. The song's lyrics emphasize the importance of being honest about one's true feelings and taking chances to find true love. In addition to the moving lyrics, the song's soulful melody and Michael Bublè's emotive vocal delivery make it a timeless classic.

Explain this, then:

Let's say Trevor believes Michael - Mike says he went in blind like everybody else, got shot & arrested and then "took a deal" that got him into Witness Protection and off the hook.

Trevor is not totally stupid: to "take a deal" from the FIB as Michael said would mean he confessed and cooperated with the cops in exchange for a clean new identity and the continued use of his stolen funds (hence how he could afford the mansion).

The game glosses over this plot hole, but Trevor would know that Michael would have been expected to give the FIB evidence against Brad and Trevor, evidence which they used to put Brad in prison (he thinks) and confiscate all of Trevor's loot (while Michael got off scot-free and got to keep his loot).

Why is that a more tolerable outcome than that PLUS having Brad accidentally killed and lying about it? The difference in moral weight seems minimal at that point. Michael literally snitched on them both to the Feds and is now rich and free because of it. It's not like Trevor is indifferent about most forms of treason but draws a clear line at treason resulting in murder...
