Michael Bublé’s introduction to the music of the swing era came to him through his grandfather, who filled his grandson’s ears with the sounds of The Mills Brothers, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and others. As Bublé eagerly absorbed the recordings, he began to realize that he wanted to be a singer and that this style of music, virtually foreign to his own generation, was what he wanted to perform.
With his grandfather’s assistance, Bublé soon learned a whole catalog of tunes and gained experience and exposure by singing as a guest with several local bands. While still in his teen years, he won the Canadian Youth Talent Search, released several independent albums, and performed in a musical review titled Swing that traveled across the U.S. It wasn’t long before Bublé was introduced to Grammy-winning producer David Foster during a famous Canadian wedding of Brian Mulroney’s daughter Caroline Mulroney. He later signed his first major recording contract with Reprise Records after that encounter.
The two Canadians began work on a debut album that would incorporate Bublé’s aptitude for pop standards into songs that spanned several decades. His self-titled debut disc was released in early 2003, and featured jazzy takes on old standards like “Fever” and “The Way You Look Tonight” as well as newer classics like “Moondance” and “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart”.
He finished off 2003 with an EP of holiday material, Let It Snow, and began 2004 with the live CD/DVD set Come Fly With Me. In 2005, It’s Time was a number one hit in Canada, Japan, Italy, and Australia, and made the top ten of both the UK and US. Later that year he released the live album Caught in the Act. More recently, Michael received a 2010 Grammy Award for 'Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album' for 'Michael Bublé Meets Madison Square Garden.
Ain't That A Kick In The Head

I kissed her and she kissed me.
Like a fella once said:
"Ain′t that a kick in the head?"
The room was completely black,
I hugged her and she hugged back.
Like a sailor said quote:
My head keeps spinnin′,
I go to sleep and keep grinnin'
If this is just the beginnin'
My life is gonna be beautiful.
I′ve sunshine enough to spread,
It′s just like the fella said.
Tell me quick,
Ain't that a kick in the head?
Like the fella once said:
"Ain′t that a kick in the head?"
Like the sailor said quote:
"Ain't that a hole in a boat?"
My head keeps spinnin′,
I go to sleep and keep grinnin'
If this is just the beginnin′
My life is gonna be beautiful.
She's telling me we'll be wed,
She′s picked out a king size bed,
I couldn′t feel any better or I'd be sad.
Tell me quick,
Oh, ain′t that a kick...?
Tell me quick,
Ain't that a kick in the head?
In Michael Bublé's song "Ain't That A Kick In The Head," the lyrics depict the euphoria and disbelief that come with falling in love. The first two lines suggest the singer's astonishment at his luck in getting to kiss the person he is interested in, emphasizing the mutual affection by noting that she kissed him back. This unexpected joy is compared to a "kick in the head," which signifies the overwhelming surprise and excitement that love brings.
The next set of lyrics describes a moment in a dark room where the singer embraces the person, and they reciprocate the hug. The comparison is made to a sailor's expression about finding a hole in a boat, symbolizing the unexpected and delightful occurrence that is difficult to comprehend or believe.
The chorus reflects the singer's elation and enthusiasm for this newfound love. Their head is spinning from happiness, and even in their sleep, they can't help but smile. They express their optimism that this is just the beginning of a beautiful life, with enough joy to share and spread like sunshine. The repetition of the phrase "ain't that a kick in the head" reinforces the astonishment and excitement they feel.
The last verse indicates that the object of the singer's affection has expressed an interest in marrying them and they have even chosen a king-size bed. The singer expresses their overwhelming happiness, adding that they couldn't feel any better unless they were sad, suggesting that their joy is so immense it can't be contained.
Overall, "Ain't That A Kick In The Head" is a lively and joyous song that captures the exhilaration and disbelief that love can bring.
