Good shows, to be sure, Panda BR, but what about "House M.D."? or "Star Trek: The Next Generation"? or "Breaking Bad" or "Supernatural" or "Futurama", or "Unsolved Mysteries" or "  or . . . I mean . . I could go on all day, and as good as shows like "Lucifer" & "Dexter are, (personally) I don't think they're really deserving of the title of "Better Than Everything Else" ... I mean "Dexter" Season 8 - Episode 12 "Remember the Monsters?" (all by itself) fucked Dexter out of that particular bracket lol.

It's a damn shame too, because otherwise, y'know, if they'd actually done a Good job on the story, writing, character development/arc's, etc., "Dexter" could have, Very Easily, held that particular achievement about it's head . . but . . such is not the way shit went down. 
Damn good show (for the first half, while steadily getting worse and worse after the half-way point of the series) for sure!!  It DEFINITELY had potential, but ... we saw what they did with 'that', now didn't we?  And, Lucifer is still airing.  It could very easily, at this point, fall victim to the exact same fate as "Dexter", so ... we'll have to wait and see......and even then, Lucifer is... y'know, 'Pretty good', but....  Like, I think it's awesome, personally, but ... I know lot's of people (so far) that think it's rubbish ..which, kind of surprised me to find that that was how most people (I interact with, at least) felt about it.  I looked it up and Rotten Tomatoes gave the series a 49% approval rating, with an average rating of 5.2/10 based on 35 reviews, and I like how whoever came up with Rotten Tomatoes consensus of the show said:
"Lucifer's got sex appeal, but the show's hackneyed cop procedural format undermines a potentially entertaining premise."
...of which, I'd have to agree with :/
(and that's from someone that actually likes the show, And, likes the show Quite a bit.)

Dexter is my favorite show, watched three times.

I think the first season is ascension as dexter feels lifted through the season. He finds a friend and someone who finally understands him. He has to kill him and that elevates him even more. It's the first time he kills to save debra and really doesn't want to kill his brother. Yet he does, he also feels a sense of accomplishment towards the end of the season like he could be accepted.

Season three is where by chance his life becomes more 'normal'. He's curious if he can have a friend, a family, his own children, a wife etc.

Ending to dexter should have had this song playing and his son sneaks a knife out of the house and walks towards the neighbors barking dog and then fade to black. Now THAT would have been a better ending than the shitty one we got

Stephen Martell Not really, a better ending would have been dedicating the whole season back to the capture of Dexter. The last season should be where everyone's doubts come to fruition, where they after all realize that Dexter is a serial killer. In the end, showing that eventually you will get caught.

The writers of the first 4 seasons intended on doing just that. The end would be Dexter getting prepared to face the death penalty, while seeing everyone he has hurt and manipulated in his life watching him.

Now that would have been a better ending.
