Heroes
Michael C. Hall Sophia Anne Caruso Original New York Cast Of Lazarus Lyrics

And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can beat them, just for one day
We can be Heroes, just for one day
And you, you can be mean
And I, I'll drink all the time
Yes we're lovers, and that is that
Though nothing, will keep us together
We could steal time
Just for one day
We can be Heroes, for ever and ever
What d'you say?
I, I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim
Though nothing
Nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, for ever and ever
Oh we can be Heroes
Just for one day
I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be Heroes, just for one day
We can be us, just for one day
I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing, by the wall (by the wall)
And the guns shot above our heads
(Over our heads)
And we kissed
As though nothing could fall
(Nothing could fall)
And the shame was on the other side
Oh we can beat them, for ever and ever
Then we could be Heroes
Just for one day
We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
Just for one day
We can be Heroes
We're nothing, and nothing will help us
Maybe we're lying
Then you better not stay
But we could be safer
Just for one day
Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh-oh-ohh
Just for one day
The song "Heroes" by David Bowie, covered by the Michael C. Hall and Sophia Anne Caruso in the original New York cast of Lazarus, is a powerful and poetic meditation on the fleeting nature of love and our ability to transcend our limitations in order to be heroes, even for just one day. The song is a duet between two lovers who find themselves trapped in a world that threatens to tear them apart, but who are determined to beat the odds and find a way to be together. Despite the obstacles in their way, they are able to steal time and become heroes-like figures who are capable of achieving great things, if only for a brief moment in time.
The lyrics of the song are rich in imagery and metaphor, with Bowie's use of language creating a dreamlike, otherworldly quality that infuses the song with a sense of magic and wonder. The use of repetition, particularly in the chorus, "We can be heroes, just for one day," gives the song a hypnotic quality that is impossible to resist. The themes of the song are universal and timeless, speaking to the human desire for connection and the desire to escape the limitations of our everyday lives in order to achieve something greater.

Bowie found the right man to honor him. About as honest, as humble, as prodigious a talent as he could hope to find. Thank you, MCH.
