Who's Loving You
Michael Jackson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I (when I) had you (had you)
I treated you bad
And wrong my dear
And girl since
Since you been away
Dont'cha know I
Sit around
With my head hangin' down
And I wonder
Who's lovin' you

I, I, I, I
Should have never ever
Ever made you cry
And girl since
Since you been gone
Dont'cha know I
Sit around
With my head hangin' down
And I wonder
Who's lovin' you

Life without love
Is oh, so lonely
I don't think
I don't think
I'm gonna make it
All my life (all my life)
All my life, yeah (all my life)
Belongs to you only
Come on and take it girl
Come on and take it
Because
All
All I can do
All I can do
Since you been gone is cry
And you, oooh
Will never wonder
And worry your pretty little head
About what I do

Dont'cha know I
Sit around
With my head hangin' down

And I wonder
Who's lovin' you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Michael Jackson's Who’s Loving You reflect the pain and regret of a man who treated his lover badly and now misses her terribly. The song expresses his sorrowful thoughts about how he should have treated her better when he had the chance to be with her. The song portrays the idea that once love is gone, it is lost forever. The first line, "When I had you, I treated you bad and wrong my dear," suggests that he was aware of his mistakes and knows that he hurt her. The second line, "And girl since you been away, don't you know I sit around with my head hanging down, and I wonder who's loving you," indicates that he is aware of his foolishness but unfortunately cannot undo his wrong.

The song's lyrics remind us of how love can be fragile and need cherishing, or it can easily slip away. It also speaks to how people should cherish the ones they love while still able to do so. The next line, "Life without love is oh, so lonely," explains how life without love is not worth living, and it leaves people feeling sad and depressed. The song's message is beautiful, and the melody is soulful, and with Michael Jackson's voice, it reaches deeper into the heart.

Not sure about that to be honest.

MJ may have had his demons (like alot of us do), but overall, you'd have to say he lived a life considered well above the average of a normal person.

The people he surrounded himself with are par for the course with famous people and everyone involved in Hollywood always comes out of it messed up, especially child stars.

Can't necessarily say MJ was treated worst than anyone else and can't also say some of the attention he received wasn't self perpetuated. I'm not saying what the media and the suits were doing was right, I'm just saying Michael didn't help himself and I'm not sure he was quite as naive about those around him as the impression he gave.

MJ made alot of unnecessary mistakes. I just cannot help but wonder how he would have turned out if he just left his appearance alone, retired after hitting the top and just went off the radar by trying to live a normal life away from trying to be in the limelight.

Oh well, it was a heck of a show while it lasted anyway.

So many people have attempted this song in competitions, however, he is the only one that sounds the most effortless. Thumbs up if you agree.

"Who's Loving You" was written by Smokey Robinson, who performed it first with the Miracles.
*Michael's version is better, but maybe I'm biased.
