It was over
Hoodie on my head, cold breath in the air
People walking by like I'm not even there
Last three nights felt like a hundred years (ooh, ooh)
I get paid for my pain long as I can make it rhyme
But sometimes I can't tell if it's even mine
It sounds like
Ooh, it's all in my head (my head)
Lightning and thundering
Ooh, I'm not dead yet
In case you were wondering
This is what a sad song sounds like
It's been playing in my head for my whole life
It's beautiful and cruel at the same time
Ooh, ooh, yeah
And this is what a broken heart beats like
It's tearin' up my chest like a jackknife
But it gets me through the good and the bad times (ooh)
This is what a sad song sounds like
Told me
It was over
Told me
It was over
This is what a sad song sounds like
Say it like you love me, say it like you care (care)
I know that I'm fucked up, I don't even care (care)
When I close my eyes, I swear I can disappear
It sounds like
Ooh, it's all in my head (my head)
Lightning and thundering
Ooh, I'm not dead yet
In case you were wondering
This is what a sad song sounds like
It's been playing in my head for my whole life (whole life)
It's beautiful and cruel at the same time (yeah)
Ooh, ooh, yeah
And this is what a broken heart beats like (beats like)

The lyrics of Mike Posner's song "I'm Not Dead Yet" convey a sense of emotional struggle and resilience. The opening lines depict a feeling of isolation and insignificance, with the singer wearing a hoodie and feeling invisible as people pass by. The following lines suggest that the singer's pain and personal experiences can be transformed into artistic expression, as he gets paid for his pain as long as he can make it rhyme. However, there is also a hint of uncertainty as to whether the pain truly belongs to him or if it is just a part of the artistic process. Regardless, the singer finds beauty in this internal turmoil.
The chorus reinforces the theme of resilience, with the singer declaring that he is not dead yet, in case there was any doubt. He acknowledges that the song playing in his head is sad, but it has been a constant companion throughout his life. He recognizes the duality of sadness, acknowledging both its beauty and cruelty. The broken heart within him is compared to the tearing sensation of a jackknife, but he finds solace in the fact that it helps him navigate both the good and bad times.
In the second verse, the singer urges someone to express their love and care for him, even though he acknowledges his own flaws and messed-up state of mind. He muses about a desire to disappear and escape from his internal struggles. The chorus is repeated, emphasizing the ongoing presence of the sad song in his life.
Overall, "I'm Not Dead Yet" is an introspective track that highlights the power of music to express and navigate emotions, particularly in times of heartbreak and personal turmoil.

This song and video brings up so much of what everyone in general struggles with.
The suffering that comes with being human.
The battle against everything you've been and want to be.
Confronting your shadow to understand yourself enough to change.
And the constant berating of others and your subconscious not knowing where your pain ends and others begin.
"They told me, it was over
Hold me, until it's over"
I needed this.
