It is by combining dark melodies, electronics and emotional vocals that Per Holmström polished and developed the trademark MIND:STATE sound.
After having released a bunch of demos, this Scandinavian one-man project took his first live steps on Swedish stages and lined-up several promising compilation appearances, which on many occasions brought him the eloquent description of being the "Swedish counterpart of ASSEMBLAGE 23."
MIND:STATE then teamed up with Belgian producer Len Lemeire (ANNE CLARK, IMPLANT, UNTER NULL, etc.) and is currently in the studio meticulously recording his debut album entitled "Decayed, Rebuilt" due to be released on Alfa Matrix in the spring of 2006.
Fans of soulful melodic electronics will not be able to resist the shimmering darkness of MIND:STATE's songs. For the sake of comparison, they are akin to Assemblage 23, VNV Nation, Angels & Agony, etc.
Looking at their website, the last entry was from 2009 and so the project now seems to be defunct.

Mind:State Lyrics

Like a serpent, I'm crawling on your skin
Fading, slowly drifting down, you are showing everything
And like a serpent, I'm crawling on your skin
Shadows haunt the deaf and blind
You are one of them
You choose not to believe
These words are not enough
It takes more to understand
Why you choose not to believe
When it's right before your eyes
While your words pave the way, for a strained disbelief
I witness past achievements, but they echo far away
You hide and conceal, but you are showing everything
And like a serpent, I'm slipping down inside
Shadows haunt the deaf and blind
You are one of them
You choose not to believe
Blinded by your own hate
These words are not enough
It takes more to understand
Why you choose not to believe
When it's right before your eyes
Guide me to your shore, leave the past behind
I will follow you to death, if you try to understand
So open up your eyes, see what you have done
Maybe then you'll understand, what I have witnessed all along
The lyrics to Mind:State's song Belief are about the frustration and struggle of trying to make someone see the truth, and their subsequent refusal to believe it. The singer is watching someone they care about slowly sinking beneath the waves, both literally and metaphorically. They compare themselves to a serpent, crawling on the other person's skin, trying to get through to them but finding that they are deaf and blind to the reality around them. The person's hate and disbelief blinds them from the truth, and the singer is left feeling helpless and frustrated. The repeated line "you choose not to believe when it's right before your eyes" is the central message of the song: that sometimes people are so set in their ways, so resistant to change, that they simply refuse to see what's in front of them.
The lyrics are haunting and poetic, with vivid imagery that paints a picture of both physical and emotional struggle. The use of the metaphor of a serpent crawling on someone's skin is especially powerful, suggesting the singer's sense of desperation and their willingness to do whatever it takes to get through to the other person. Ultimately, the song is about the human desire to connect with others, to make them see what we see, and the frustration we feel when we can't.
