Timmer is from the Frisian village of Warga (West Frisian: Wergea), where she was exposed to music and songwriting as a child. Together with Johan van der Veen she performed in a talent show under the name Twarres. This led to the duo's success, and in 2000 they scored a hit in the Netherlands and Flanders with the song "WΓͺr Bisto" recorded in their native West Frisian. They followed this success with the singles "She Couldn't Laugh", "Children," and "I Need To Know." Their debut album, Stream went platinum.
In 2003 Timmer wrote music for the West Frisian-language musical De lΓͺste brief. Timmer and van der Veen decided later that year to break up Twarres. "Face To Face," her first single under the name Mir appeared in 2006. She later released the solo album Files From London.

you've got to take a look inside,
to find the truth that hides behind your eyes,
And all that I can see, are your empty stairs and they are avoiding me,
How can I pretend to understand?
Now's a time to face to face you'll see
In your reflexion
Of what you maight see,
So now you've go face to face
Right here and now it's a place
to look yourself in the eyes
and learn to love what you find
and now you've go face to face
what are you waiting for?
I am not your mother,
and still you've got to listen to,
the inner voice who tell you what to do,
now I don't break a point
of who's right and who is not,
it's important to know that this is not a game...
Now that you have face the face you see,
In your reflexion,
you must turn around don't be affraid,
what you will see,
So now you've go face to face
right here and now it's a place
to look yourself in the eyes
and go to love what you find
And now you've come face to face,
what are you waiting for?
face to face..
face to face...
face to face...
And now you've come face to face
what are you waiting for
The lyrics of Mirjam Timmer's song "Face To Face" speak to the importance of self-reflection and self-love. The singer addresses a person whom she has told many times that they need to look inside themselves to find the truth, but all she sees from them is avoidance. She urges them to face themselves in the mirror and not be afraid of what they may find. The singer reminds the person that they do not need her guidance as a mother-figure, but rather they need to listen to their own inner voice that tells them what to do. The song stresses the seriousness of this process and that it is not a game.
The chorus repeats the phrase "face to face," emphasizing the message of self-examination. The singer encourages the person to look themselves in the eyes and learn to love what they find. Without self-reflection and self-love, the person will not be able to move forward and take action.
The song is a powerful reminder of the importance of self-care and self-understanding. It encourages the listener to take the time to reflect on their own thoughts and feelings and to embrace themselves fully. The repetition of the phrase "face to face" is a reminder that this process is ongoing and requires constant attention and effort.
