Diddy Eyes
Mister Heavenly Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She had diddy eyes, diddy eyes
She had diddy eyes, diddy eyes
She had diddy eyes, diddy eyes
Diddy eyes, diddy eyes

The way she walked
(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)
The things she saw
(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)
The way she talked
(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)

She had diddy eyes

He's got you tethered to a mast
Red rose that you never even asked for
You shouldn't have drank from his flask
You should have dumped the potion on the floor
And now he's got you wrapped around his finger

And he's taken
And he strays
And he stays

I can tell that you're going through hell
Cause you got those

Baby, someone'll come and save us
(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)
Baby, I don't believe that's true
(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)
Maybe, we'll try and save each other
(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)
Destroying ourselves is what we do

Oh it's the way that he goes and touch you
You feel your body start to shiver and splinter
You hate the women that came before you
You'll kill the women that come right after
And now he's got you wrapped around his finger

Baby, someone'll come and save us
(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)
Baby, I don't believe that's true
(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)
Maybe, we'll try and save each other
(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)
Destroying ourselves is all we do

Baby, someone'll come and save us
(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)
Baby, I don't believe that's true
(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)
Maybe, we'll try and save each other

(diddy eyes, diddy eyes)
Destroying ourselves is all we do

Overall Meaning

The Mister Heavenly song "Diddy Eyes" is about falling for someone who is not good for you, even though you know it. The repetition of "diddy eyes" in the chorus is meant to emphasize the way the person in question looks at the singer. The verses go on to describe the hold this person has over the singer, how they've trapped them in a relationship where they are "wrapped around [their] finger". The bridge suggests that the singer maybe doesn't want to give up on their relationship yet, but acknowledges that "destroying ourselves is all we do".

The lyrics of "Diddy Eyes" describe a poisonous relationship where the singer has fallen for someone who is manipulative and dangerous. The lines "You shouldn't have drank from his flask / You should have dumped the potion on the floor" suggest that the singer knows their partner is bad for them, while the description of the way they touch the singer ("You feel your body start to shiver and splinter") hints at coercion or abuse. The chorus repeats the phrase "diddy eyes" like a mantra, underscoring how the other person has subsumed the singer's sense of self.

Destroying ourselves is all we do.

Also the "?" Confusion I can clear up. The first to chorus terms are "turning on ourselves" and the last is "destroying ourselves" is all we do.

Caitlin Ruth
