He played as a bassist for the band Les Colocs until 1995, then began a solo career as Mononc' Serge. His albums include Mourir pour le Canada, 13 Tounes Trash, and Mon voyage au Canada, the last of which contains one song for every Canadian province and territory, mostly making fun of each of them.
In 2003 he teamed up with the heavy metal band Anonymus, and released an album named L'Academie du Massacre, which contains metal versions of Mononc' Serge's songs, along with a few new compositions.
Mononc' Serge's most recent album Serge Blanc d'Amérique was released in march 2006.

In Çapitaine, Mononc' Serge sings of his childhood dream of working on the water and how he has now achieved that dream as the captain of a boat. He credits his immense merit for having overcome mountains of bottles to reach this point, highlighting his struggle with alcoholism. Despite the toll it has taken on his body, he continues to order drinks at the bar and remains the captain of his ship, which is metaphorically anchored at the counter of this dive bar.
The imagery in the second stanza is both comical and slightly unsettling, as he compares himself and the other patrons to deep-sea divers, diving into their glasses of beer and remaining dry despite being submerged in alcohol. The reference to Jacques Cousteau adds to this surreal scene, as the famous oceanographer is known for his underwater expeditions. The lyrics are also reflective of the societal acceptance of drinking culture, with the line "tant que nous naviguerons sous leurs auspices, nous pourrons voguer saoul sans craindre la police" (as long as we sail under their auspices, we can sail drunk without fear of the police) suggesting a certain leniency towards drinking and driving.
The final stanza takes a turn towards misogyny and objectification, with a crude description of the barmaid's breasts and a reference to "not having any intentions" towards her but simply wanting "five minutes of fun". The use of the word "poufiasses" to refer to the women waiting for him at the table is also derogatory. The song ends with the captain still firmly anchored to his place at the bar, surrounded by women and fellow drinkers.
