Over And Over
Mr. Groove Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who said that it was over?
I haven't said it all
What you did, we'll never know
And I'm left waiting, waiting for your Love
Not everything is as it seems
No, it ain't over
You, you, want to throw
All we've done, and how we've shined away
Why don't you see me for who I am
Just give me, gimme, a fighting chance
Not everything
Every story, every moment
Is as it seems
Yes, I'm feelin' sorry
And who knows who's wrong here
Yet you bring out the best in me
Every feeling, every notion
'Til I draw my last breath
Give us a chance to be
It ain't over
Give us a chance to be
It ain't over
Give us a chance to be
It ain't over

Give us a chance to be
It ain't over

Overall Meaning

The song "Over and Over" by Mr. Groove explores themes of lost love and regret. The lyrics describe the singer's attempt to find love in the eyes of a former lover, but they find that there are no words that can capture what they're looking for. Despite this, the singer still remembers the small details about their former lover and the things they loved about them. The song then revisits a conversation they had in the past about not kissing because of the fear of spreading a cold, which now seems like an excuse for the former lover's changing attitude.

The song then discusses the singer's struggles with understanding what it means to be truly "manly," as they reflect on their past failures and missed opportunities. However, they express a desire to become like the clouds in a sunset, which is a poignant metaphor for freedom and beauty. As the song progresses, the singer acknowledges that they loved everything about their former lover, imperfections included, but that their love wasn't enough to prevent them from leaving. In the end, the singer comes to terms with the fact that their love and memories of their former lover will always be a part of them, even though they must say goodbye.

on White Light

I first heard this song in the middle of the night, running through the mountains of Central California, training for a race. The sky was clear and the air was cool and still. In those days I was at a place in my life where I was immobilized in my career and fostered a culture of melancholy on the daily.

As I trudged through the grassy trails on the hilltops, I heard the piano play and the eurobeats synthesize. And then the words.

No sound nor chorus so profound and simple has wrought the unique sensations of hope through resiliency than White Light. When we’re surrounded in darkness and our minds in a negative place contrive diminishing thoughts, we lose hope and can give up. But every time I hear the ”white light”, I look around me and see cold white lights of a halogen lamp on the street, an LED sign or biker’s headlight. Then the sunshine, golden and warm. But that’s not where the hope actualizes..

For me, it’s the idea everyone seeing me right. I imagine the communities of people I know all around me smiling, smouldering, gazing my way, and commending me for what I’ve done and stand for. That moment in my eyes and heart, I’ll have the proof that I did right, no matter the evil that others and even myself will think of me.

The white light is all around us, and in our hearts. I know you see the white light.
