Control
Mute Math Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take control of the atmosphere
Take me far away from here
There is no better loss than to lose myself in you
In a parachute to glide, I am captive in your sky
Surrender has somehow become so beautiful

Take control of the atmosphere
Take control of the atmosphere
You can take my world you can fill the air
Take control, take control

It's such a beautiful surrender
It's such a beautiful surrender
It's such a beautiful surrender
It's such a beautiful surrender

Move me up through the darkest clouds
Till I've lost in the sun every shadow of doubt
There is no better find than to find myself with you
In a fog you are all I see
I'm inviting you closer with each time I breathe
Surrender has somehow become so beautiful

Take control of the atmosphere
Take control of the atmosphere
There is no reason I should breathe unless you're in the air
Take control

Its such a beautiful surrender
Its such a beautiful surrender
And I'm calling out

would you take control
And I'm calling out

Overall Meaning

"Control" by Mute Math is a song about surrendering oneself to a powerful force that is capable of taking control of the atmosphere. The lyrics express the desire to escape from one's current situation by letting go and trusting in something greater than oneself. The metaphorical language of the song compares this surrender to being captivated by a beautiful sky or fog, where the person can be lost in the atmosphere and find themselves in close proximity to the force they are surrendering to. The repetition of the phrase "Take control of the atmosphere" reinforces the idea of letting go of control and giving oneself over to the power that surrounds them.

The lyrics also suggest that there is no better loss than losing oneself in this surrender. The loss of control and the freedom that comes with it have an allure that is undeniable. The lyrics express the sentiment that surrender has become beautiful, which may imply that it was once something to be feared or avoided. The chorus repeats the phrase "It's such a beautiful surrender" four times, emphasizing this idea even further.

Overall, "Control" is a song about the beauty of surrendering oneself to a greater power and the freedom that comes with letting go of control. The lyrics use vivid imagery to describe the feeling of being captivated by a force that is greater than oneself and the desire to be lost in that feeling.

The song that lifts the spirit
The one I grew up listening to support the many sorrows of my youth
The melodies of my chreerished motivation
The perfect surrender for the thousand times I've found no reason to breath unless you are in the air .

This has always been my favorite Mutemath song, so why haven't I heard this version sooner? It's incredible!

OhMulvaney

I believe this song is definitely about God. It's beautiful and I love it so <3

Also, I saw MuteMath live back in April of '06 (surprising how empty the hall was). Paul said he wrote "Control" while on a flight. He lost his cool and penned this song while praying for a safe landing. He now uses Valium when he has to go on long flights. :) Also, many bands with Christians in them will not want to be labeled as "Christian" because of the obvious presumptions made about Christian bands and the narrow genre into which they fit.

OK Jeffy

I met them. By listening to them on the radio.

Seth Johnson

I saw them back in 2007 and was lucky enough to run into Paul and chat with him for a bit. Incredible musicians and just great people all around!
