My America Is Watching Tigers Die Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to My America Is Watching Tigers Die's song Scumbag are a reflection of the struggle that comes with leaving home to pursue one's dreams. The opening line "Life is more than what's in front of you" suggests that there's more to the world than what one can see in their immediate vicinity. However, it's up to the individual to "see through the haze" and recognize the opportunities beyond their current horizon. The perfect life is just a step away, but the question is whether it's worth sacrificing one's dreams for it.
The song's narrator calls this moment their "first night" and urges the listener to see where it leads them. They are willing to scream their lungs out before giving up on their dreams and settling for mediocrity. Their fear of leaving home is palpable, yet they recognize that there's so much to see and experience beyond their current comfort zone. The "rapture" of chasing their dreams takes them away from the familiar, and they admit to not being sure of the way home. However, they are willing to continue pushing forward and taking the highway until their eyes are red and their hearts are weak. They ask the listener not to forget them because they won't forget about them, indicating a sense of longing and homesickness.
Overall, the lyrics to Scumbag are a poignant reminder of the sacrifices and struggles that come with pursuing one's dreams. It's a call to push beyond one's comfort zone and take risks to achieve the life they want.
