When I'm Gone
My Inner Burning Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Break down the walls
And take the past away from us
Break down the walls
And wash away what was
Break down the walls
And take the rain away from us
Break down the walls
No matter what it costs

When I'm gone I'm waiting for too long
When I'm gone I'm feeding in the strom
And when you're gone you're waiting for too long
When I'm dead and gone (...)

And all I can see is this look in your eyes

Under the core
I listen what I say to you
Under the core
I'll listen what I say
All of my words
Can't bring me always back again
All of this hurts For giving just a word

When I'm gone I'm waiting for too long
When I'm gone I'm feeding in the strom
And when you're gone you're waiting for too long
When I'm dead and gone (...)

And all I can see is this look in your eyes
And all I will be is a thorn in your cry
You're cryin'

All the time I was waiting
I've wasted my life
For things never happend
But all has its time

I'm sorry, so sorry
For that I did you wrong

'Cause I was afraid
It is over and done

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of My Inner Burning's song "When I'm Gone" convey the theme of breaking down walls and letting go of the past. The singer urges to "break down the walls" and take away what was, referring to the emotional walls and barriers that has been built up. The lines "And all I can see is this look in your eyes, And all I will be is a thorn in your cry" suggests the pain caused by the breakdown of a relationship, where the singer might have hurt someone he/she loves, and now he/she is helpless about it. The lyrics also convey the feeling of being stuck and waiting for something to happen in life. The lines "When I'm gone I'm waiting for too long, When I'm gone I'm feeding in the strom" convey this feeling of being stuck in a seemingly never-ending cycle of waiting for something to happen, even though it might not be possible.

The verses also depict how the person is trying to make amends by listening to the other person and saying the right thing, but the outcome never changes. The lines "All of my words, Can't bring me always back again, All of this hurts, For giving just a word" conveys how difficult it is to rectify a situation once it has reached a point of no return. The last verse "All the time I was waiting, I've wasted my life, For things never happened, But all has its time" showcases the realization of having wasted their life waiting for something that might never happen.

Overall, the song is a heartfelt expression of regret, pain, and the feeling of being lost in life.

This is such a good song. Heard it on a gothic rock station a year or two ago and have been in love with it ever since. Sad that the band no longer exists, but hey, they should get back together and do it again, give it the proper treatment and music video. It's that good. <3
