Growing up the only girl in a family of five, some may coin Na’Shay as a tomboy. “Tough YES, tomboy NO,” says the determined 14-year-old.
She may only be a teenager, but many times Na’Shay’s flair echoes the well-merited astuteness of an experienced musical veteran. With Na’Shay’s cutting edge Hip Hop sound, charismatic smile, fresh beautiful natural face, and energy to spare, Ashanti and Brandy had better hold on to their seats because there’s a new record industry darling in town that will give them a run for their money in the Hip Hop market. Once her album drops, Hip Hop fans will definitely bump her album on the regular, which displays up-tempo and party-rocking joints that will leave fans wanting more. On Na’Shay’s freshman album fans will have an opportunity to hear high-profile collaborations, including a Hip Hop cut with artist Lil’ J.
With an appealing musical style, Na’Shay will have you captivated by her soft, powerful, sultry voice. She believes in "keepin’ it real" with her lyrics and beats. “What kind of artist would I be if I didn’t give the public what they wanted,” the little ball of fire says. Na’Shay has the influence to be a teenage Hip Hop roll model to teenagers everywhere. In due time, she’ll show the musical world a creative juice and fearsome soul power that will largely become the province of female African-American artists.
Na’Shay’s musical influences include Missy Elliot, Aaliyah, Alicia Keys, and Toni Braxton to name a few. This innovative High School student, currently in the 9th grade, creates her own fashions by making holes in jeans, with a splash of paint or simply writing on them with markers. Her smooth skills and stylishness come in second only to her genuine charm and love of music. She will stimulate change in music and fashion as well as have the ability to move and inspire her fans.
Born and raised in Southern California, Na’Shay displayed her gift of singing at the early age of two and has been singing ever since. At the age of 12, Na’Shay began entering local talent shows in South Central. At age 13, she signed her first recording deal with Monopoly Music.
Na’Shay made her debut in fall of 2002 when singing two songs on Disney’s hit television cartoon The Proud Family. When asked whom she thinks her voice sounds like, Na’Shay smiles infectiously and says, “A mix between Alicia Keys and Toni Braxton. Sweet, but with a loud mouth!”
Na’Shay dreams of traveling around the world some day, but for now she spends most of her time writing, recording and sharpening her skills. When asked what she likes to do with her free time, Na’Shay lights up and bounces in her chair trying to control her enthusiasm and says, “I love to dance, Hip Hop is my favorite,” spoken like a true performer.
After a long day, Na’Shay is pleased to go home as the humble young lady everyone knows and adores where she can spend time with her family and friends, play freeze tag with her brothers and watch re-runs of “SpongeBob SquarePants!”

The lyrics to Na'Shay's song Sweet Dreams are a mix of both rap verses and a pop chorus. The first verse is delivered by Lil J, in which he thanks his partner for their unwavering support and expresses his emotions towards her. He invites her to lay her head on his pillow so he can fulfill all her desires while he makes money and achieves success in his glamorous life as an artist. However, he also mentions that he is missing her touch and hoping for a brighter future together. Na'Shay's verse follows this, as she sits alone and writes about the pain of being in love and not wanting to fall asleep for the fear of missing the euphoria of thinking about her partner.
The chorus repeats twice and carries the message that if Na'Shay thinks about her partner or falls asleep, she'll end up in a guaranteed sweet dream. The lyrics aim to capture the fleeting moments of love that people experience and the excitement and joy that they bring. The song tends to be a romantic ballad that puts a spotlight on the ups-and-downs of love, dreams, and longing.
Overall, the lyrics to Sweet Dreams are a blend of rap and pop music that paints a picture of love, longing, and the hope for a brighter future with a partner. The song expresses the mixed emotions that come with being in love: the joy, the pain, and the hope. Through its lyrics, the song gives the listener an opportunity to connect with the roller coaster of emotions associated with falling in love.
