The series stars Connie Britton as Rayna Jaymes, a legendary country music superstar, whose stardom begins fading. Her producers offer her a joint tour with the up-and-comer Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere), the young and sexy future of country music. But both singers are pursuing their goals. Juliette wants to take the place of Rayna. Rayna thinks that a few songs written by talented author Scarlett O'Connor (Clare Bowen) will help to revive her success. Rayna's father is Lamar Wyatt (Powers Boothe), a powerful politician in Nashville, who forced her to marry Teddy Conrad (Eric Close), who lives on her money.

Another mountain to climb
Always going to be another secret to find
Don't you know, know you're not alone
There's going to be days when
You've lost all hope
When the doors are locked you're
Out in the cold
Oh I'll be your shelter when
The rain starts to fall
Oh a true believer when your
Back's against the wall
When you can't find the line
I'll be by your side
There will be times you love
The hand you hold
Everything you touch turns into gold
It's all to find the reasons why
There's going to be days when
You hit the ground
But don't give up, we'll turn it all around
They can try but they can't take our fight
Oh I'll be your shelter when
The rain starts to fall
Oh a true believer when your
Back's against the wall
When you can't find the line
I'll be by your side i'll be by your side
I'll be by your side i'll be by your side
I'll be by your side
These lyrics convey a message of unwavering support and companionship. The first paragraph acknowledges that life will always present challenges and obstacles ("Another mountain to climb," "Another secret to find"), but assures the listener that they are not alone in facing these difficulties. Even on the darkest days when hope seems lost and they feel isolated ("When the doors are locked you're out in the cold"), the singer promises to provide refuge and acceptance ("It's alright, you can come inside"). They vow to be a shelter during the tough times, a true believer even when it feels like everything is against them ("When the rain starts to fall," "When your back's against the wall"). No matter how lost or confused the listener may be ("When you can't find the line"), the singer promises to be a constant presence and a source of support ("I'll be by your side").
The second paragraph shifts the focus to the times of joy and success. The singer acknowledges that there will be moments when the listener will feel fortunate, when everything they touch turns into something valuable ("Everything you touch turns into gold"). The purpose of these positive experiences is to discover the reasons behind them ("It's all to find the reasons why").
The third paragraph returns to the theme of facing challenges. It recognizes that there will be times when the listener will stumble and fall ("When you hit the ground"), but the singer urges them not to give up, promising that together they will turn things around ("Don't give up, we'll turn it all around"). They assure the listener that no matter how hard others may try to bring them down, their fighting spirit cannot be taken away ("They can try but they can't take our fight").
The final repetition of "I'll be by your side" reinforces the central message of the song. It serves as a reaffirmation that the singer is committed to providing constant support, being there for the listener through the ups and downs, and demonstrating unwavering loyalty and friendship.
