When I Fall in Love
Nat King Cole feat. Natalie Cole Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Or I'll never fall in love
In a restless world like this is
Love is ended before it's begun
And too many moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun
When I give my heart it will be completely
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you.
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you.
The song "When I Fall in Love" by Nat King Cole & Natalie Cole is a romantic ballad about finding everlasting love. The first verse begins with "When I fall in love it will be forever, or I'll never fall in love." This line establishes the singer's unwavering commitment to finding true love, indicating that they will not settle for anything less. The next couple of lines describe the difficulties that come with finding lasting love in a restless world where love seems to end before it even begins. The ending of a relationship, like too many moonlight kisses, cools in the warmth of the sun.
The second verse continues with the theme of complete commitment to love. The singer promises to give their heart entirely or not at all. The final lines of the verse express the culmination of the singer's desire to find true love, becoming when they can sense that the other person feels the same way. The repetition of "when I fall in love with you" at the end of each verse emphasizes the depth of the singer's love, and the certainty that they will know when they've found the right person.
Overall, the song is a tribute to the eternal search for true love and the dedication required for that love to endure. It speaks to the universality of the human experience of longing for and finding love.

My mom died when I was 16. Many of my memories of her are of us taking drives listening to her favorite singer Natalie Cole. She is why I named my first daughter Natalie. In memory of my mother and Miss. Cole. Such a classy beautiful person. Didn't realize it is near the 1 year anniversary of her death. Maybe my mother had her memory pop into my head so I would come here. Rest in peace, Natalie.
