Extinction
Nausea Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The world is growing weaker
With the passing of each day
Riding the westwinds
The fetid stench of decay
Resources dwindle into the consumerist machine
As mechanical vultures pick
The carcass of our world clean
Extinction
From the rot man has sown
He must now reap the seeds
The fruit of his labor
Hunger and disease
We now cling to this dust
Like flies, crawling on carrion
Whose infertile soils are fit
Only to bury in
Extinction
As our dying breath is released to the wind
The innocent lie
With those who have sinned
Their meaningless lives
Have long been forgotten
As the cycle rebirth
Starts to begin
A new day will dawn
Through the rising of smoke
Of civilizations shattered dreams and hopes
New life will rise from mankind's fall

Whose corpses will feed
On the barren dead soil

Overall Meaning

The song "Extinction" by Nausea talks about the inevitable end of humanity, caused by our own actions. The lyrics describe how the world is deteriorating day by day, as resources are being consumed by the consumerist machine. The mechanical vultures represent the greed of corporations and governments that exploit the environment and take advantage of natural resources without considering the consequences. The result is hunger and disease, which is the fruit of our labor.

The lyrics also depict a sense of despair as humans cling to this dust, crawling on carrion, and their infertile soils are only fit for burial. The line "their meaningless lives have long been forgotten" implies that we have lost our sense of purpose and have become slaves to material possessions. We have sinned against nature, and our dying breath is released to the wind. The only hope for a new beginning is through the rising of smoke from civilizations shattered dreams and hopes. From the ashes, new life will rise, and a new cycle of rebirth will begin.

Overall, "Extinction" is a powerful and thought-provoking song that calls attention to the destructive behavior of humanity and the consequences of our actions.

Nausea recorded this album with help from Agnostic Front and Nuclear Assault who loaned the band musical equipment and rehearsal space.
Guitar player Vic went on to play with Chaos UK after Nausea disbanded.

Jake Robert

cheers for the info.

@Stock Feeder I never saw them with Neil and Amy only Al and Amy. I liked the material they recorded with both Neil and Al, I think this album sounds more urgent with Al however. Their NYC shows were phenomenal to say the least!

Daniel Lewis

This album is mind blowing. It's been one of my favorite albums for over 20 years now. I was fortunate enough to see Nausea perform at a club called Revival in Philadelphia way back in 1990. They fucking killed it live. This album definitely stands the test of time.

Thats fucking sick.  Wish I coulda saw them.  Hey can you clear something up for me?  Can you tell me what the deal is with the 2 Nausea's?  One from LA and one from NY....But Amy's Facebook page was merged with the LA Nausea page.  I'm confused!

suicidebag666 I'll be honest with you, I don't know too much about that. I have been aware of LA's Nausea for a long time. I know that they are more of a grindcore/metal band, but I have no idea why Amy would merge her page with theirs. Interesting. Perhaps it's some kind of legal issue over the band name. Your guess would be as good as mine. If you find out, let me know. I would be curious to hear about it.
