Someone Who Needs Me
Nikka Costa Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Star bright
First star that I see
I'll make a wish tonight
Hope I find someone
Who needs me
Toss a coin
Make a wish and promise...
Not to tell
Till I find someone
Who needs me
I'm hoping
I'm praying
That you are searching too
When you are lost
I will find you Baby
When I am tossed
Upside down
Oh baby
You'll take my hand
Turn me around
Now who says that
Dreams can't come true
Lucky charms
Magic spells
I'll believe in dreams
And fairy tales
Till I find someone
Who needs me
I'm hoping
I'm praying
That you are searching too
When you are lost
I will find yen Baby
When I am tossed
Upside down
Oh Baby
You'll take my hand
Turn me around
New who says that
Dreams can't come true
Some day they'll happen
To me and to you
Star light
Star bright
First star that I see
I'll make a wish tonight
Hope I find someone
Who needs me... now
The lyrics to Nikka Costa's "Someone Who Needs Me" express a yearning for a deep connection with another person, someone who truly needs and wants the singer in their life. The first verse sets the scene with a classic childhood ritual of wishing upon a star. The desire to find someone who needs the singer is so strong that even as an adult, tossing a coin into a well and making a promise not to tell until the wish comes true is a meaningful gesture. The chorus repeats the singer's hope and prayer to find that special someone, who will be a partner in seeking each other out when they are lost or turned upside down.
The second verse adds the idea of believing in lucky charms and magic spells, all in the name of finding that one person who needs the singer. The repetition of the chorus reinforces the idea that this is a deep longing that won't easily be fulfilled, but that there is hope and belief in eventually finding the right person. The final phrase "Hope I find someone who needs me... now" adds a sense of urgency, as if the singer can't wait another moment to find that special someone who will complete their life. Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of yearning, hope, and a belief in the possibility of finding true love.
