The band began in early 1996 under the name of Requiem, and was assembled by guitarist Petri Lindroos and drummer Toni Hallio accompanied by two other musicians. In the beginning, the band suffered from the lack of a proper rehearsal place, but in late 1997, guitarist Alexander Kuoppala (ex-Children of Bodom) found a suitable place for them to practice at Lepakko; around this time the band decided to change their name from Requiem to Decayed. Their luck was short-lived, however, as their new rehearsal place was soon to be demolished. The musicians who played with Lindroos and Hallio soon lost their motivation and quit Requiem.

After a few months, the band managed to find another rehearsal place, and began looking for members to complete their line-up. After quite a few auditions, they were unable to find musicians that they deemed fit to play with them, and thus went on a hiatus, which lasted until the beginning of 2000, when they met guitarist Kristian Ranta. The band became active once more, and with the help of two brothers who were friends of Lindroos - Sebastian and Joakim Ekroos - the band recorded their first demo, for the first time using the name Norther. A promising demo led to them signing a deal with Spinefarm Records.

Due to internal problems, the Ekroos brothers quit the band; this lead Norther into finding its first stable formation when bassist Jukka Koskinen and keyboardist Tuomas Planman were incorporated into the band.

Norther received a positive response from specialized press after the release of the album Dreams of Endless War. Following this, the band maintained a prolific release schedule, releasing the albums "Mirror of Madness" (2003), "Death Unlimited" (2004), and "Till Death Unites Us" (2006), as well as the singles "Released" (2002), "Unleash Hell" (2003), "Spreading Death" (2003), and Scream (2006), the MiniDVD single Spreading Death, an EP titled Solution 7 (2005) and most lately EP "No Way Back" (2007). A full length album is planned to be recorded in August-September 2007, it was released in Finland in early autumn 2008 carrying name the "N".

In October of 2005, drummer Toni Hallio left the band, leaving guitarist/vocalist Lindroos as the only remaining original member. Hallio was replaced by Heikki Saari, drummer of Virtuocity.

Petri Lindroos left the band in 2009 because his other band Ensiferum took most of his time. Aleksi Sihvonen was hired as the new singer and Daniel Freyberg as the second guitarist. Norther entered Astia studios on October 5, 2010 to record a new album, ''Circle Regenerated'' which was released April 19 2011.

On 24th of July 2012 the band announced on their website that the members have decided to quit Norther because of time issues. The band played its last show on the 10th of August at Brutal Assault Festival 2012 in the Czech Republic.

If I wasn't a teen in the 90's, I never would have guessed that Norther covered this song. It sounds like it was made for death metal. Also Norther is definitely not Hardcore. This particular song sounds screamy because it was originally a punk song. They added more notes to the bass line and the vocalist is way over the top on this cover. It's well done, and I can understand why you'd think it was HC. But it most definitely isn't.

Wow! The Offspring used to be one of my favorite bands but I must say I love Northers version wayyyy better. They really put their own unique Finnish Metal touch to it and made it their own. I swear, syths always make a song sound better, and plus this song doesn't have the crappy guitar tone of noddles. hahah!

@Bies1993 I like the norther version guitar low end sound better, but it doesn't have that ending riff that comes on at 3:14 in the Offspring version, where it has the battle drums and chugging guitar riff; I mean the riff is only 45 sec, but it fucking makes the song epic.

The guitar and the drums are pretty cool..but the screaming vocals ruin the song imo and u can barely hear the base segment of the song starting at the 1:39 mark, which i think is one of the best parts of the song..

I've got an idea...lets re-sing every song ever made, but only distortion-scream every lyric...i used to listen to a cheesy band called dry-kill logic, and i think this is that same band renamed...it may also very well be 40 below summer or ......(insert 1million other group-screamie bands u can think of).....my little brother can use his MacBook and make this song sound way more wicked n he's only 13, if u r so primal Bad Ass, play it w/out distortion n sound just as mad....hahah right....

@Metalwhore89 Don't you ever talk poorly of Noodles. He is an amazing guitarist and the album was released on an underground independent label. The vocals simply ruin this version of the song and I have no idea how you could prefer it to the original. You're entitled to your opinion, but bashing on Noodles' guitar playing is never going to fly.
