Burning Love
OKAMOTO'S Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hahahahaha vanilla

Please to meet you
That's how devils start the song
Said, hi hi hi
Guess you're bit too smart to have fun like other fools
Burning love is an extinct breed, that's why I cut my hair
Just trying trying trying to make sure I got fingers to
Pull the trigger by my self

There're too many (there're too many)
Ridiculous nights (ridiculous nights)
That you never (that you never) get what you want (get what you want)
Spinning wheels (spinning wheels) take me higher (take me higher)

Yeah! Yeah!
Yeah! Yeah!

Freezin' air around
My eyes're like retired soldier
So I will, chin, chin, chin, use the microwave
Just make them melt a little

Everybody burn it up! (You better burn it up!)
(You better burn it up!)
Everybody burn it up!
(You better burn it up!)
(You better burn it up!)
Everybody (you better burn it up!)
Everybody (you better burn it up!)
(You better burn it up!)
(You better burn it up!) you better, yeah yeah yeah yeah

Vanilla

Everybody burn it up! (You better burn it up!)
(You better burn it up!)
Everybody burn it up! (You better burn it up!)
(You better burn it up!)
Everybody (you better burn it up!)
Everybody (you better burn it up!)

(You better burn it up!)
(You better burn it up!) you better, yeah yeah yeah yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Burning Love" by Okamoto's starts off with a laugh followed by the introduction "vanilla" which seems to be a reference made to the sweetness of ice cream. The first few lines of the song seem to be conveying that the beginnings of "devils" or the "bad boys" always seem playful and happy. The singer then goes on to contrast that with how smart people like him do not always have fun like other foolish people. He then mentions that "burning love" is an extinct breed, which appears to be a reference to the emotional intensity of love in the past but now reduced. The mention of cutting his hair could be a reference to trying to reduce the emotional intensity of his feelings. The singer realizes that he alone holds the power for his love by saying he is trying to make sure he has fingers to pull the trigger by himself.

The lyrics then shift to expressing the desire to meet with someone despite the obstacles and the vulnerabilities love causes. There is a reference to melting a little in the microwave and licking vanilla flavor, which could be interpreted as trying to cool off the intensity of love. The song ends with a repeated phrase "Everybody burn it up!" which could be interpreted as a call to let go of reservations and embrace intense emotions.
