Elvira
Oakridge Boys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Eyes that look like heaven, lips like sherry wine
That girl can sure enough make my little light shine
I get a funny feelin' up and down my spine
Cause I know that my elvira's mine

So I'm singin'
Elvira, elvira
My heart's on fire elvira
Giddy up oom poppa omm poppa mow mow
Giddy up oom poppa omm poppa mow mow
Heigh-ho silver, away

Tonight I'm gonna meet her at the hungry house cafe
And I'm gonna give her all the love I can
She's gonna jump and holler 'cause I saved up my last two dollars
We're gonna search and find that preacher man

Now I'm a singin'
Elvira, elvira
My heart's on fire elvira
Giddy up oom poppa omm poppa mow mow

Giddy up oom poppa omm poppa mow mow
Heigh-ho silver, away

Overall Meaning

The Oakridge Boys' hit song "Elvira" is a catchy tune that tells the story of a man's infatuation with a woman named Elvira. The lyrics paint a picture of Elvira as a beautiful woman with "eyes that look like heaven" and "lips like sherry wine." The singer is clearly taken with her, as she is able to "make [his] little light shine," and he gets a "funny feelin' up and down [his] spine" just thinking about her. He is confident that Elvira is his, and he repeatedly sings her name in a catchy hook that is sure to get stuck in your head.

The second verse of the song tells us that the singer is going to meet Elvira at the Hungry House Cafe, and he plans to give her all the love he can. It's clear that he is completely smitten with her, as he has saved up his last two dollars to take her out. The verse ends with a line that suggests that they are on a mission to find a preacher so that they can get married.

I love the way all these ol boys got together and proved you don't have to give up having fun to be a Christian. Fun and sin are two entirely different things.

The Barbecue

I remember as a kid having nightmares about that bass singer who I thought was a monster because I thought only a freak could sing like that. ⚡🔥🎼🎶

My Daddy always made us sing along in the car when this song came on the radio. Such a great memory! We had a sing-along to it at his funeral. He loved The Oak Ridge Boys. Everyone else at the funeral looked at us kids like we were nuts, but we know that Dad would have loved it!

He can't get nearly as low as he used to. Search for older versions of the song or anything of the Oakridge Boys. He had a low range that was hard to beat.
