Old Man Luedecke left the big old city of Toronto, met a girl in the Yukon, fell in love, bought a banjo and fell in love again. After a couple of years of love and banjo and the makings of a brilliant performing career in sunny Halifax, he returned to the Yukon with his sweethearts. There he woodshedded. He wrote a ton of songs over the next year and a half. He held regular gigs playing banjo in a gambling hall with can-can girls and in a honky tonk called the Snakepit accompanying piano barnacle Bob. Even made an appearance at the Dawson City Music Festival. After a time, he left again for Halifax to renew musical acquaintances and record his debut CD Mole in the Ground. That CD has become a smash on college radio, was featured on CBC's Atlantic Airwaves and is a hot item in stores and at shows. He continues to live in Halifax and perform there and around the country to ever-wider acclaims. His stage show blends hokum and inspiration into powerful and fun entertainment that will delight young and old. He's still sweet on the girl he met up there in Yukon, and the banjo

Proof of Love
Old Man Luedecke Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just when I'd given up hope I could barely cope she didn't come too soon
I thought hey diddle diddle now isn't this a riddle it's a proof of love
When the cakes hit the griddle we'll dance a little jiggle by the stars above
Call this world our own
All I want is to be a little part of the things that I love
All I want I make a little start at the things that I love
Well Zoe says begging your pardon been in her victory garden in the month of June
She finds [lawn seed on?] dreams of suburban farming coming up soon
She's the spirit of the age, she's a breaker of the cage she's a proof of love
When the cakes hit the griddle we'll dance a little jiggle by the stars above
Call this world our own
All I want is to be a little part of the things that I love
All I want I make a little start at the things that I love
Seems there's lots of things that I could love
Well Chuck he's a pretty weird duck he likes to stay at home and build model trains
But when he gets to Barney's river he gets a thrill he can't explain
Has a thrill riding through the hills following the river and the train track
Like he's in a model set Fiona gets he is a proof of love
Call this world his own
All I want is to be a little part of the things that I love
All I want I make a little start at the things that I love
Seems there's lots of things that I could love
And Olin when he gets himself wrong he's jaded but he's faded on a hot afternoon
He can be a bit grim but there's records for him that'll make him swoon
And when he's home all alone with the headphones on he's a proof of love
When the cakes hit the griddle we'll dance a little jiggle by the stars above
Call this world our own
All I want is to be a little part of the things that I love
All I want I make a little start at the things that I love
Seems there's lots of things that I could love
Seems there's lots of things that I could love
The song "Proof of Love" by Old Man Luedecke is an ode to finding joy in the small things in life. The first verse describes the joy of seeing someone you love come into your life and how it can make everything seem brighter. The second verse tells the story of a woman named Zoe who is excited about her victory garden and dreams of suburban farming. She represents the spirit of the current age and how people are going back to the land and wanting to be more self-sufficient.
In the following verses, Chuck is described as someone who stays at home building model trains but finds excitement in riding through the hills and following the river and train track. Olin is described as someone who can be a bit jaded, but finds solace in listening to records by himself.
