Heroes
Onallee Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
they can get the glory
the can get the glory
and then they kiss you and tell you that they're satisfied
oh oh save me a hero
The lyrics of Onallee's song Heroes are reflective of the current society, where we tend to celebrate people who are often not real heroes. The singer emphasizes that she does not know any real heroes, but there are people who can gain glory and recognition, and think they are satisfied. The singer is disillusioned with the society's notion of a hero and what it means to be one. The lyrics also highlight the fact that even people who gain fame and glory often do so at the expense of others, as they may kiss you and tell you they are satisfied, but there is no real connection or recognition of the people who helped them achieve their status.
The song is a commentary on how people in our current society pursue fame, money, and other superficial markers of success, and often forget to recognize the real heroes amongst us. The singer acknowledges that while we may admire some people who achieve great things, it is essential to recognize the true heroes who work hard, sacrifice, and make a difference in the world.
Overall, the lyrics of Heroes are thought-provoking and insightful, and they highlight the need for us to rethink our notion of what it means to be a hero in our society.

One of my stand-out Glastonbury moments ever was in 2000 watching Roni Size perform this, with Onallee's voice haunting across the crowd. Still sends shivers even 20+ ytears later.

I've always alled Roni Size's music "patient drum and bass". It's never in a rush to go where it goes, it just flows niiiiicely and shows its musical progression on a near-intuitive level.
