In The Morning
Out Of My Hair Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wake me up and tell me what you know
Wake me up and tell me what you know
Before you go, before you go
In the morning

Pick me up and put me on the road
Pick me up and put me on the road
Before you go, before you go
In the morning

I gotta take in my stride
The tendency to move was already in you
So why are you so serious
Try, I know the reason why
So what is there to do
We're already in two
So why we keep on moving on

Tell me was their fire in my head
Tell me was there fire in my head
Before you go, before you go
In the morning

I gotta take in my stride
The tendency to move was already in you
So why are you so serious
Try, I know the reason why
So what is there to do
We're already in two
So why we keep on moving on

Wake me up and tell me what you know
Wake me up and tell me what you know

Before you go, before you go
In the morning

Overall Meaning

The song In the Morning by Out Of My Hair starts with the lines "Wake me up and tell me what you know, before you go, in the morning". The singer is asking his lover to reveal something to him before she leaves. He requests her to pick him up and set him on the path before she departs. The singer confesses that he must control his urge to run away as it was already part of his nature. The love story is on the rocks and he questions whether there was passion between them.

As the song progresses, the singer admits that he understands why they are in their current position. But he is puzzled as to why they keep moving forward when they already know the outcome. He concludes by asking the same question requested in the beginning of the song, "Wake me up and tell me what you know, before you go, in the morning".

The lyrics suggest that the singer is grappling with the dissolution of his relationship, expressing his confusion and a yearning for clarity. The overarching theme of the song is about gaining understanding and acceptance while facing one's fears and shortcomings.

@kj9732

I'm Japanese.
I'm your biggest fan!
I'm 14 years old, I think your music is so cool!
The reason I learned your music was because my father was a musician and a person listening to a lot of rock music, and my father recommended your music from a lot of rock music inside for me!
I especially love Mr Jones in your song! I think the way that song is changing key is really cool!
I have all your CDs!
I'm also trying to become a musician, I can play guitar, bass, piano! Moreover, I'm as left-handed as you!
I'm so glad that you have the same thing in common!
I've been rooting for you from Japan!
Please continue to do your best as a musician!

it's hard to find a song as good as that. 60's vibes... such a good feeling <3

I used to go see this band at Club Candid between 1991-3. I was 16. Their intimate unplugged performances were awesome. Usually just two performers on acoustic guitars. Comfort's sensitivity and guitar playing were very cool. This song takes me right back to that time. The last time I saw them live was at the Dublin Castle and Underworld where MTV's Paul King interviewed the band around 1994. Really happy they're still making special music.

Just discovered this song. I like it. A belated thanks to those who made it and also those who put it in a mix I came across.

I heard this song for the first time almost a year ago and something about it is so special in my heart. I’m not exactly sure what the meaning of the song is but something about it feels like it understands me a bit.
