This was the choice that really fucked me over and reminded me of the story in New Vegas.

I decided to side with Ashur. Wernher lied to us about the cure and kept us in the dark, which makes me think he is just interested in gaining power.

Also I chose what was ultimately best for the people in the Pitt, Ashurs regime is extreme and brutal and yes the cure will take about 10 years to create but he is right. Thanks to him they are thriving despite the conditions, granted the enslavement thing is horrible but they have to do it otherwise there would be no one to work the mill because everyone would be dead anyway, he is pushing them to get things done and the Pitt is easily one of the most defendable places in the wasteland.

Also if Marie is given to the slaves they will likely care nothing for her happiness so long as they get their cure, they won't be as gentle as her mother would. Speaking of which Maries mother is a scientist and will get the cure out much faster than the slaves would ever do.

One more thing, if the baby is given to the slaves she might very well be killed once they have the cure as she is the daughter of the man who enslaves them. Sends shivers down my spine thinking of the unspeakable things they might do to her once they get the cure considering how long it will take to perfect and cure everyone, If there is one thing I have learned from your videos Ox the people of Fallout are fucking despicable.

I'm pretty sure that statue is meant to be a torture device/way to kill or punish slaves or other raiders. Kind of like the Brazen Bull. You put someone in the body of that thing, heat up the statue using flames, and then watch them slowly roast alive.

@Game Dev Cade yes Nuka world is great lol, I plan on turning my Nuka world into commonwealth version of new Vegas strip , first use mechanicist lair to mass produce hundreds of sentribots and assultrons to reinforce order and fix up the place to live in and work on tourist economy , and use local area and town to farm for food and services etc , get the train station fixed up completely so I can have more transportation support and afterwards Nuka world would be a economic stronghold and a living city lol

pittsburg in of itself is a seriously amazing city. I would love a full game with the steel mill pitt area as the center and the area's around it explorable. could be 20 years after fallout 3 so you can see the effects of ashurs rule.

As a Pittsburgher I find the name of the one Raider to be rather amusing. The Term "Red Up" is Pittsburghese for cleaning up an area. So a Raider named Reddup is a nice nod to the lingo. Would have been funnier if the signs pointing to downtown were spelled the way it's said with a true Yinzer accent. Dahntahn.

@John Anderson that's totally true the Pitt ain't worth trying to build a settlement out of it's to poisonous to do anything but would be a great industrial center to use , point lookout has the potential to build a big healthy living colony once swamp folks and ghouls get taken out and can grow large quantities of punga fruit to eat and hunt mirelurks for meat and can trade with the Pitt for steel sheets and beams to build housing etc in point lookout and the Pitt gets rich nutritional punga fruit and mirelurk meat to eat and punga fruit helps fight all radiation and having better nutrition helps against regular sickness etc and afterwards point lookout and the Pitt can prosper

I remember playing this DLC and siding with the slaves and being absolutely horrified by what Werhner does with Marie. Ended up going back and siding with Ashur after hearing the audio logs. The Pitt was a great DLC thanks to the lack of black and white decisions.

I sided with the slaves on my first run through The Pitt. Everytime after though, I sided with Ashur... Not cause I am evil, I can't play an evil character in any game I play. I can't bring myself to kidnap Marie, even if it means the slaves wait... They wait... I made sure to not tell the rat anything, I ended the one slaves suffering, I collected every ingot so no other slave had to go ingot hunting. What turned the tide for me was when I learned that Wherner (forgot how to spell his name) used to be an underling of Ashurs... Also the fact that without Marie's mother, or even Ashur, the cure will never be finished. They have the medical technology to run the tests for the best results, whereas if you kidnap her, what do Wherner and Midea have? Ramshackle shacks that have nothing in the way of clean, sterile testing environments for what they intend, as well as the fact neither of them treat Marie as a human, but mearly a thing to be used and discarded... I can't stand by that... Even if it kills me to see the slaves suffer, as I wholeheartedly damn the idea and practice of slavery... I can't do it to the parents, or to Marie...

I'm three years late, but yeah, for me Ashur's ending is the best ending. I usually also roleplay that my Lone Wanderer will come back and end Ashur if Ashur fails to uphold his end of the bargain. One way or another, those slaves WILL be free eventually.

Now here's a thought, if Fallout 4 is 10yrs in the future of FO3, it's kind of a lost opportunity to not see the Pit again and see if they ever found a cure. If so, that would mean the raiders and people born there would, in the long run, inherit the Wasteland. Their immunity would mean they could settle in some of the harshest areas, freely eat irradiated food and drink filtered water that doesn't need the extra effort to purify of radiation. They're the only ones who can scavenge in the most irradiated of facilities like ghouls without the aid of suits and armors with limited thresholds of resistance. They could rival the Brotherhood if it means they can get a hold of lost technologies in those areas.

But it's only if they succeeded. I wanna see how they've faired

The reason Synths were seen as abominations was because to have a close friend or loved one replaced by billions of zeros and ones is quite terrifying. In the game, it is stated that the Institute worked peacefully with the Commonwealth until they started making Gen 3 Synths, scaring people that their brother may be a Synth. Ashus has a stability, but if you choose Wernher then entire haven sector becomes infected with a trogs and thats a genocide and I usually choose the ex member of brotherhood ending.

Sorry but I kind of agree with Jericho here: I too sided with Ashur when I had Fallout 3 on my X-Box 360 and probably going to go hell for my decision here but I think some of the points are valid here. Yes this does mean condemning others to slavery for the sake of this but I highly doubt Wherner has any good intent involved in all of this and if you do side with him....there is nothing stopping him from restarting all of this because he is a Raider and one that is not exactly merciful here. He lied to you about being what he is and he has a general lack of care for someone claiming to "Free the Slaves". He is scum and maybe even worse than Ashur as even if Ashur is flawed, he has good intent here and wants to create an existence that could one day free the slaves if given time.

And yes, I know this point is flawed to consider but one has to consider the fate of the child here: Sandra is at the very least a good mother. Yes she is conducting experiments on her own child and yes, it takes longer for a cure but at least Sandra is a caring and kind mother that the baby needs. The baby could grow up to be a savior to the people and even with the Raider influence, she could rise above all the rest to be what Joan of Arc was to the people given time. Ashur and Sandra are not evil people, flawed yes but not evil as evident by a few things found in game. Medea on the other hand....cares nothing for the little dove and constantly complains how she is handful and sends you to get her gifts just to shut her up. This isn't a kind mother, this isn't someone that has the best of intent here for the baby: this is the kind of person that as soon as they get what they want, they will cast an innocent behind here to rot.....as horrible as Ashur is for doing some of the things he has done and while hell is paved with good intent, at least Ashur can actually say he at least cares enough to eventually say that the slaves will earn there freedom once a cure is developed, far more than Wherner can say here who will continue to use and abuse here.

Yeah it's a game, but these are just theories and ideas of what would happen after the scenario plays out. We don't really know, but we can guess. We rarely, if ever, get to see our choices play out in the long-term as we'd like.

Get a water purifier from one of the vaults to use , if the lone wonderer could take over point lookout and has potential to be a big healthy colony growing large quantities of punga fruit to eat and hunt mirelurks for meat and can trade with the Pitt for steel sheets and beams to build housing etc for point lookout and the Pitt gets punga fruit, moonshine and mirelurk meat etc to eat , punga fruit is full of nutrients and treats radiation problems and afterwards point lookout and the Pitt can live in a prosperous place

@Kristy Rice and many heroes throughout history have done terrible things to reach their goals and they won, that’s why they’re heroes while the losers are looked upon in a less favorable light.

Just like how America ended ww2 by dropping nukes on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the idea is horrifying but it did end the further extension of a war that would’ve killed thousands and thousands of more people if it continued to go on.

That argument has no standing, you have to look at the outcomes. Unfortunately we never find out what happened. If it works it’s worth it, if not oh well.🤷🏽‍♀️

@Oxhorn the statue in front of Haven looks like it is used as some sort of wickerman where they burn troublesome slaves alive. This also explains the fire and braided rope which would be used as fuel.

The Pitt seems inspired by The Brothers Karamazov, specifically the theme of suffering. This entry from it seems especially poignant in regards to the question of what to do with Ashur's child.

I helped Asher because I liked the idea of in the future he and his raiders develop a cure safety from the kid and like he said, they won’t have to kidnap slaves anymore, they will be able to grow naturally. Thought that was cool

This. This is the toughest decision I had to face in all of Fallout to date. And when I reached this point, I... didn't want to commit. I wanted to flee The Pitt. Return to the Capital Wasteland. But... being high level, having saved the Capital Wasteland not once but twice (having completed Broken Steel) I knew that my character wouldn't shy away from a decision. So I made her turn on Walther. But boy, oh boy, it didn't feel heroic. Not in the slightest. I hated the DLC at first. It took me a while to get why it was so genious.

It's weird to think that either children always had a high infection rate and are just ticking bombs if they keep their sanity or that if the Pitt did not collected outsiders I'd have made it's own immunity's and that Marie could have been 1 in 100 of babies that could not be Trogs or be effected by radiation

Anyone find it odd that fallout 4 takes place around a decade after the events of fallout 3 and not a single peep through the entire game is made of the rumors of a cure? If there truly is a cure, the reason we would've let ashur and his wife live is the confidence that they could work more efficiently at finding it and spreading it across the wasteland for everyone to benefit from. I would have thought if progress had been made everyone would be all over it.

@Havok Saar that's the thing the Pitt is too poisonous to live in at all , point lookout has more potential to build a big healthy colony for people to live at and the Pitt can be just a industrial center and have people live in uptown and use the robots to work mills and rotate workers between point lookout and the Pitt , point lookout will be a thriving place to live with large quantities of punga fruit etc to eat and help with radiation and the Pitt produces steel products like sheet metal, beams etc and everything will be better

The implication that the slaves fuss about not hurting her. The Implication that she won't grow up in a society that justifies raiding and slaving as a necessary evil.
That she won't be feed and clothed by food stolen from the innocent people in the wasteland. That she won't grow up knowing that countless other children like her suffered and died because her dad's raiders stole there food or hauled off their parents to be worked to death in the steel mill.

Only specific zones in the Pitt are TDC-active, so children born outside of the worst areas (like the rivers) are fine. It’s likely that 30 years ago less areas were TDC-active, meaning more children would survive.

Alright the first and only mod I installed was a companion tracker. I used it since Piper randomly disappeared from the map. I couldn't find her even after getting this and eventually just gave up. I felt like starting all over so I deleted the mod and that game. I started all over and now there's a bug that happened because of the mod apparently. I dunno. Now I have the cell reset bug I think. A full armor of t-51 automatically reset to rusty t45 when I entered it. Additionally containers that I already looted reset and get items again. Seems good but like I said, it affects power armor. Any ideas of what I should do?

someone in the Boston area was abducting random citizens for use in their experiments, now here someone told you to steal a cure that turns out to be a baby. it's sick stuff.

i'd never steal the baby. i'm curious to see what would happen, but i find it morally wrong to steal someone elses baby (though taking away a child from abusive parents, or that the child is causing more harm than good, i find that reasonable). i will give Wernher the benefit of the doubt though because he has only heard of the cure i think, not really laid eyes on the prize (oh god...), so i get where he's coming from, but i'm kinda split about this actually.

well, guess i'm going to find out what happens tomorrow, at like 5 pm.

Watching this, the choice was clear to me. Help Ashur. Stealing his baby, it'd make you no better than the slavers you kill. You're taking a kid away from her parents, even killing them if you have to, just to give him over to some dude that didn't seem to care about the lives of some new slaves coming into the Pitt. I think Wernher's 'people' are just those who're actually native to the Pitt, not the imported slaves. That means his group is probably much smaller than we think. Ashur's a good dude, and while he may be currently doing some horrible choices, his hope that him and his wife and create a cure to radiation sounds just like how vaccines in the past were made. Lots of people had to die for the cures to become a reality. In that way, the choice was obvious. I couldn't think of a single excuse to reason why taking the baby would be a good thing.

I sorta skipped the story by killing the raider that comes in when you’re talking to that women in the beginning. I killed all the other raiders standing guard and made way to mutant territory. I come back to kill in the gladiator area. I use my gear to kill everyone else.

Ox, TDC is like radiation, there are places where it is worse (the rivers seem to be the worst). If people can avoid these areas they can recover between exposures. The slaves have it worse but the mill, etc. are not the worst areas. Midea and several others do not show the lesions.
