The End of the Line
P.U.S. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm sweatin' bullets for breakfast
Slipping outta my range
Another night on a meat hook
Just tryin' to pickle my brain
Why the hell are you running
And what are you standing for
A lightweight with the baggage
Slung out the door

So roll us on up in shrink-wrap
It sounds like a good place to hide
'Cause heads an' tails it's a night on
We'll be there 'til the end of the line

I asked out the back
To find a word in a cloud
Told me something that I already knew
Now if you're waiting for luck
To come and touch you up
You better wear yourself a good-lookin' suit
Don't you come around asking
'Cause I ain't got an answerin' mind
I'm gonna get real damn familiar
With something with ice

So set us on up in the corner
And throw over that bottle 'o wine
'Cause heads and tails it's a night on
We'll be there till the end of the line
We'll be there till the end of the line
We'll be there till the end of the line
Don't expect us now to understand
Or trust in the way that it feels
Chasin' up the coins into the ocean
And choppin' up the carriages to fight the locomotion alright

I had a win in Kansas
A birthday in North Albany
The most ungrateful tourist
You ever dragged an old friend to see

(Kick out the jams it ain't no fuckin' exam)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "The End of the Line" by P.U.S. explore themes of excess, desperation, and uncertainty. The opening lines depict the singer's frazzled state, having just woken up and feeling like they are "slipping outta [their] range." The repeated reference to "another night on a meat hook," suggests a sense of entrapment and perhaps addiction. The chorus, "roll us on up in shrink-wrap / it sounds like a good place to hide," implies a desire to escape or hide from something, though it is unclear what that might be.

The later verses continue with this theme of uncertainty, with lines like "I asked out the back to find a word in a cloud / told me something that I already knew." The singer struggles with feeling adrift and without direction, with no clear answers or guidance. Despite this, there is a sense of resilience and determination in the repetition of "we'll be there till the end of the line." The closing line, "kick out the jams it ain't no fuckin' exam," feels like an assertion of independence and the rejection of external pressure or expectations.

I had an abscess like that before. It was 7 years ago, and I woke up with the side of my left jaw SWOLLEN. I was crying and screaming to my dad, begging him to do something. Punch me, rip the tooth out, anything. Just stop the pain. We didn't have dental insurance at the time, so my dad tried his best running around to dentist after dentist to find one for me. Fortunately, he found one and they knocked me out. When I woke up, the relief I felt was unexplainable. It was probably the best I ever felt. I went home and took a 14 hour nap! I slept the entire day and it was the best sleep i've ever had! I thanked my dad like crazy for helping me. Tooth pain is no joke. My teeth were absolutely horrid until I recently got extensive work done on them, which costed all of my savings for years. I don't wish tooth pain or bad teeth on my worst enemy :(
