Woaa, this is pretty shocking footage.

That woman was just standing her ground, but is being treated as if she's stolen the car; or is a wanted hardened criminal who the local Police have been trying to catch for months. Absolutely shocking.

Shes just a normal person, and a 60 something woman minding her own business. Maybe she was on her way to the garage to get the tail light fixed? Or maybe she didnt know her tail light wasnt working.....as a result of another driver bumping it while her car was parked.

You don't automatically look at the back of your car everytime you go to it do you??!

This Police Officer used force massively disproportionate to the circumstances, and the supposed crime the woman was being accused of.

Hope she managed to recover and file a criminal complaint against this officer.

Would have been satisfying if he had been suspended from further front line duties at least. If not sacked altogether. Btw 'sacked' is the British word we use for being 'fired'.

This poluce officer isn't fit or suitable to carry out front line duties. He's clearly got a combustible character, and is probably easy to make angry. People like this should NEVER be police officers in the first place. Just appalling.

For some context in the full body cam footage the woman explains to the officer that she knew it’s been broken for quite some time which lead to him ultimately giving her a ticket. As a disabled senior, my answer would have been, "Yes sir, thank you for telling me my taillight is broken. I'll get it fixed right away." No muss, no fuss, everybody's happy. I was stopped pulling into my driveway at night a few years ago because my taillights shorted out and I didn't know it. I was respectful to the officer, no ticket and had my mechanic come over the next day to fix it. Easy peasy. Some people prefer drama. I prefer a ticket free and jail free record for over a half century of driving.

I've seen a longer version of this video before, and there's some material previous to where this starts. She's been given a warning about the taillight already, over a month before this point, and didn't do the repair. And with that information, everything is different. He has no choice but to give her the ticket, because she's already been warned.

At this day and age, it's crazy that this should happen. It's possible and in a lot of European countries already used practice to just inform you of your crime and penalty and just let you go with paper of notice. Later you get your fine via mail, and you pay it or appeal at court. Much less hassle and violence needed at all.

A broken tail light is an automatic $80 fine ? I would think a citation to get it fixed within 7 days would be in order ? Someone stole my front light cover in a parking lot and I didn't notice until the next day . Should I have been fined ? Kicking the cop was "Karens" mistake but still not worth being tased , it could have killed her. (for a broken light) ?? When she took off they could have went to her home and arrested her for fleeing .

He did his job...He followed all protocols. She refused to sign the ticket (It is law that if a person refuses to sign a ticket that they be arrested and jailed pending a court date to adjudicate if the person is innocent or guilty by a judge) then fled the scene of a traffic stop (obstructing justice) and kicking an officer (2 to 10 years in prison for assault). Plenty of older people have shot and killed officers. He was in the right.

When an officer tells you to do something, you do it. Simple. Then you have nothing to worry about but a simple court date or a fine, and you can be on your way. Being difficult only makes things worse.

Edit: unless it’s genuinely unlawful (such as soliciting inappropriate behavior or forcing/coercing into such acts). If the officer tells you to stay in the car, stay in the car. Get out of the car? You get out of the car. Hands up? Put your hands up. If you cooperate then they won’t cause harm. They only use force when it’s absolutely necessary.

Why does she deserve any different treatment than anyone else? There is always more to the story as we can see. Just take the ticket, fix the light and show that at court and they dismiss it.

When the lady said “shut up and give me that and I’ll sign it” the policeman should have given her the ticket and should have un-arrested her if she did actually sign it (as opposed to ripping the ticket up, which could have been what she intended to do, possibly). Saying “we’re beyond that” just escalated the situation unnecessarily.

it may be lawful, I consider this being a little excessive. In my country they usually give you a form which says you have to fix your taillight in a given time frame and if they "catch" you again with that broken tail light, things may "escalate" (fine of like 50 bucks)

Yes, if it was a first time offense or second, there was a full news report of this story, apparently this was going on for over 6 months, she had plenty of times to get it fixed, plus she ran away and assaulted an officer, which I think is a fine up to 5,000.

It will arrive in the mail a few days later.

Why would you have to sign anything on the spot?
Even if a police officer writes you a ticket over here, he just hands it to you and reminds you to pay within 30 days or something.

So a signature is not an admission of guilt. It’s simply a promise to the court that you will take action on it. Either paying the fine or going to court. In most states where you refuse to sign is an arrest-able offense.

I know no one will care about how it actually works and why she was arrested. But let’s just stick to it’s a grandma giving attitude and the cop has an ego, like 75% of these comments
