His musical landscape rose from a rich background in classical music that allowed him to become a musician and interpreter who poses a great deal of musical versatility, underpinned by his many years of experience working as a studio and stage musician.
Patrick's musical landscapes are sensitive, deep‐rooted and honest. Alive with imagination and busy with ideas, the musical environments he creates are where styles and influences meet, tended by sensitive ear and allowed to fuse. It is here, from this space, in this crucible, that Patrick works hardest – where his unique pieces emerge and where the importance of the listener's interactions is never forgotten.
Patrick recently composed the original soundtrack for the feature film, Everything is Fine, directed by Yves‐Christian Fournier. His work on this feature won him both critical acclaim from the press and that of his contemporaries in Quebec (see reviews below) and winning awards in Europe (Festival International Music and Film).
In 2007, he signed the original soundtrack of the short film À mere et marée by Alain Fournier.
Patrick has not only exceeded in film, he has well illustrated his talent in his creations for advertising also. His compositions have been heard in commercials for the SAQ, Mastercard, Loto‐Quebec, Merck Frosst, STM, Videotron, Bell, Ministère de la santé et des services sociaux and Subway. While continuing to create for the cinema, Patrick Lavoie is now a composer for Boogie Studio based in Montreal, which specializes in advertising, television and video games. In parallel, he has developed a career as a singer‐songwriter.
As a working musician, Patrick takes joy in collaborating with other artists, again bringing himself outsideof the studio, to perform with other musicians. He has played with Pierre Lapointe and Quebecissime to name just a few. He was heard on albums by Ian Kelly, Tomás Jensen, Kodiak, Marc‐Andre Fortin and Guillaume D'aou. He also directed and arranged the music for the advertisement of the Cirque du Soleil's show Zaïa, and the albums Denise Dallaire and l’Attisée.
Reviews about Everything is fine’s music:
"I was not only seduced, I was blown away by this first film, which bears the mark of an author. Hypnotized by the actors play, caught by the intelligence of the script and by Patrick Lavoie's music..." Marc Cassivi, La Presse, February 2, 2008
"Everything is fine makes a remarkable use of cinema's diverse possibilities, while never forgetting to
anchor the style to the substance, to ensure that the style does not take precedence over the argument. On the other hand, the contribution of the music composed by Patrick Lavoie (...) is invaluable ... "Kevin Laforest, See, February 14, 2008
"Everything is fine appears brighter, more optimistic than the movie by Van Sant. This début feature film
strikes by its technical mastery, the beautiful images by Sara Mishara married to the excellent music by
Patrick Lavoie, making for a great harmony of the whole movie... "
Odile Tremblay, Le Devoir, February 16, 2008
"... Let's mention, finally, the exceptional sound wrapping the movie. Each musical piece sticks perfectly to the images, to the reality projected on the screen and to the tone of the scenes. Consisting of both very
sweet melodies and much more aggressive pieces, the soundtrack of Everything is perfect brings even
further this powerful movie from which one fails to entirely unhook, even after the credits ended." Gabrielle Madé, Ça manqué à ma culture, February 17, 2008
