the percussive clacking sound of the keys is one of the distinct characteristics by which you can clearly identify the sound of a hurdy gurdy.

That percussive clicking noise is actually not from the keys or the keyboard, but intentionally done by lifting the main string cover and rapping it sharply against the fame of the hurdy gurdy. You can see it in this video of Guilhem Desq!

Many such medieval instruments have "parasitic noises", which add to their rustic charm.

I think I discovered this song a few days after it went live. I had been playing gurdy for one year. I didn't know you, I didn't how large the possibilities of a gurdy were. I was young, shy and quite alone in the world of gurdy music.
2 years later: I met incredible players on internet, including you of course, I made friends online and IRL, beginners or masters. The gurdy changed my life. I'm so glad I started learning it. It's one of the most precious thing I have :) This song I re-listened to made me remember that. Thank you for this great piece of art <3

This has got to be one of my favorite music related YouTube videos. Anytime someone doesn't know what the hurdy-gurdy is I send them this link. Because I think this is one of the best examples of really what a Hurdy Gurdy can do hands down. Although the tempo. The music is amazing and it's just very well put together and composed

I recently got more interested into medieval instruments and discovered the Hardy Gurdy not that long ago, mainly through the Witcher 3 game, and Andrey Vinogradov.
I am very glad there are many Hardy Gurdy players around the world who still keep this art going on !
