Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Pie Jesu, sung by Paul Miles-Kingston and Sarah Brightman, speak of peace and eternal rest for the dead. The repetition of the words pie Jesu and dona eis requiem, meaning "merciful Jesus" and "grant them rest," respectively, emphasize the singers' longing for the departed to find peace. The lyrics mention the phrase "qui tollis peccata mundi," meaning "who takes away the sins of the world," which refers to Jesus' role as a savior who absolves sinners of their wrongdoing. Ultimately, the lyrics express the mourners' hope that their loved ones will find eternal rest in heaven.

I looked this up because of Malaki's performance as well. It makes me cry everytime I hear it but I cant stop listening. I imagine this is the "muzak" of Heaven.

I certainly am. I remember it well when it was first released. It's an absolutely exquisite performance and setting of this sacred text. It still brings tears to my eyes. I also remember first hearing it to the soundtrack from where the images of this video come: a film called Hope & Glory.
