Gary; the primary songwriter and guitarist, met Paul; the co-writer, lead vocalist and pianist, while they shared a class at Jamestown Community College, durring 2008. Gary and Paul shared music ideas and jam sessions. Eventually they developed a few songs that were practiced as a band, with bassist friend Drake Bigelow and drummer friend Dan Skinner. Though the band of four never launched; the name 'Paul and the Space Cadets' was suggested by Gary to be the name for the musical act and stuck with Krueger and Jackino, as they continued to write. By 2010, the two had written ten songs and Gary moved to Arizona. The songs were still in production and Paul met up with Gary to complete the album by fall of 2012. At the beginning of 2013, Paul and the Space Cadets released a self-titled album of seven songs.
It's a New Day
Paul and The Space Cadets Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
As alive and fresh as it used to be
Spring wind blowing straight through the window
And a message tied to the breeze
And I hear this is a new day
Swear this is a new way
It won't be before you feel it, too
But I haven't felt like this for so long
I've been boxed up, locked up in a cage
But I?ll undo the chains with my own hands
And I hear this is a new day
Swear this is a new way
It won't be before you feel it, too
And I hear this is a new day
Swear this is a new way
It won't be before you feel it, too
In these lyrics, Paul and The Space Cadets express a sense of liberation and rejuvenation that comes with embracing a new day. The line "I breathe the new day, baby, wild and free" suggests a feeling of freedom and vitality as they breathe in the fresh air of a new beginning. This indicates a departure from the past and a willingness to embrace the present moment.
The reference to the "Spring wind blowing straight through the window" symbolizes a fresh breeze of change and new opportunities. The following line, "And a message tied to the breeze," implies that there is something significant and transformative in the air, waiting to be discovered. It hints at a positive revelation or guidance that can lead to personal growth and a shift in perspective.
The repetition of the line "And I hear this is a new day, swear this is a new way" emphasizes the artist's conviction that the current moment brings a change in direction or mindset. It reflects their belief in the transformative power of this new day. They acknowledge that this transformation may take some time for others to fully embrace, hence the line "It won't be before you feel it, too." This suggests that while the artist is experiencing this transformation firsthand, they understand that others may need time to catch up and experience it as well.
The final lines, "But I haven't felt like this for so long, I've been boxed up, locked up in a cage. But I'll undo the chains with my own hands," depict a sense of personal liberation. The artist reveals that they have been confined or restricted in some way, metaphorically trapped inside a cage. However, they assert their agency and determination to break free from these restraints, taking control of their own destiny. This further reinforces the theme of embracing a new day and finding a sense of empowerment and liberation in doing so.

Really love your videos, Paul. Sci-fi co-op games are so good, and this one is my next buy. Almost has that B-movie sci-fi theme like Conquest of Planet Earth (which I also own and you did a playthrough of). Space Cadets is on sale on Amazon right now as of 9/4/2019 for $43.99. This is a steal of a deal and I have to pick it up!

it occurs to me that if every tile has an alien token and discovery token, they could just be fished out of a bag to make setup less fiddly

I suppose that would be easier. Thanks for watching along!

+Stasia Doster It's fast and fun - but not very complex. I don't think it was intended to be. Thanks for watching along!
