It's Time
Penny & the Quarters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I find myself in a room, when I'm with you.
You bring on my pain,
And I feel I'm gonna puke.

I hold to my head to ease the hurting,
And the backwash that set's in has me screaming.
All harsh feeling we been through has me bleeding,
And the backlash put on me keeps me breathing.
Don't you see it's time for me to go.
Don't you see it's time for me to go ( without you ).

I find myself in a room,
When I'm with you,
I'm wrapped up in my pain,
Like a cloth made with stains.

I hold to my head to ease the the hurting,
And the back wash that sits in has me screaming,
All harsh feeling's we been through has me bleeding,
And the backlash put on me keeps me breathing,

Don't you see it's time for me to go,
Don't you see it's time for me to go (without you)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Penny & the Quarters' "It's Time" passionately express acceptance and love that spans different worlds and defies life's limitations. The use of anaphora throughout the song emphasizes the deep connection and commitment between the two individuals. In the first verse, the singer emphasizes that the other person is not an unattainable dream or mystical being but is simply human, and the singer sees himself similarly as a man rather than a powerful king. The phrase "take my hand" conveys the desire to create a new reality where they can exist together. In the second verse, the singer acknowledges the initial differences between their worlds, but they still found themselves drawn to each other, forming a deeper connection and intimacy that transcends any societal barriers or expectations.

The chorus of "until it's time for you to go" acknowledges that they are not sure how long they can stay together due to life's uncertainties or circumstances, but they share an understanding that this moment together matters. The final verse adds a layer of poignancy to the song by suggesting that the two could be separated indefinitely, but the memories and the love they share will persist. The song's final statement, "I still stay until it's time for you to go," suggests an enduring commitment between two people who are aware that their love may not be eternal but have chosen to cherish the time they have together.

Hmmm, my Grandfather Jay Robinson is the lead singer and writer of this song but our family has received nothing. He died a few years before this movie came out and would have loved for his music to be heard by so many. His music was one of his greatest passions. I feel so prod that it has now reached so many. RIP Jay

Supposedly they interviewed Goldean who is my grandmother but I have never heard anything about them giving her any royalties. Next time I see her I'm going to show her this article and ask her about this interview. It was a few years back but I remember her and my mom going through a lot of hassle in trying to investigate this whole thing. From what I remember my mother telling me at the time, nothing in regards to royalties ever came to fruition. Thanks for sharing the article though, I must further investigate.
