Canyonlands
Person L Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And that's where I hope to find you
I'm beside myself in a panicked state
Just yell as loud as you can
If you can
In this foreign place I've never known, ooh
I heard a voice,
I've arrived too late
Searching for life
Or it's staying still as it can, as it can
No one would even know if you can, ooh
Let me tell you how I've been
Climbing to the tops of the mountains
Back down to where I began
Losing myself on the way
I've been climbing to the bottom of the canyons
Finding myself on the way
Finding myself on the way
On the way, on the way, on the way, on the way
The lyrics of Person L's song "Canyonlands" are open to interpretation, but they seem to be about searching for someone who has gone missing in a mysterious, remote place. The singer is in a "panicked state" and "beside [themself]" as they search for this person. The opening lines suggest that this place is so secluded that "no one goes" there. The singer is hopeful that they will find the person they are looking for, but they are also aware that it may be too late. When they hear a voice in the distance, they wonder if it could be the person they are seeking.
The chorus of the song is about the journey the singer has been on in their search. They have climbed mountains and descended into canyons, losing and finding themselves along the way. It seems that the search is not just physical, but also emotional or spiritual. The repetition of "on the way" at the end of the chorus suggests that the journey is ongoing.
Overall, "Canyonlands" is a song about the struggle to find someone or something that has been lost. Whether this is a literal or metaphorical search is open to interpretation. The lyrics are evocative and emotional, and the music builds to a powerful climax that underscores the intensity of the search.
