In 1981, Cetera released his first solo album on Warner Bros. Records. The album was a commercial failure, which Cetera has attributed to Warner Bros.' refusal to promote him as a solo artist out of fear that he would leave Chicago, who had only recently signed with the label.
In 1985, Cetera was interested in recording another solo album. He had stated his lack of interest for the extensive touring schedule of the band. When the 17 Tour concluded in late-April 1985, Chicago's management, along with several members of the band, had expressed a desire to book another tour for that summer and start work on the next Chicago album.
Cetera insisted that they take a break from touring so that he could concentrate on a solo album and spend more time with his family. After the band rejected his offer to stay in the band while recording a solo album, it was announced that Cetera and Chicago would go their separate ways in July 1985.
Almost immediately, Cetera continued his streak of success. His first single, "Glory of Love" (the theme to the movie The Karate Kid, Part II), was a US No. 1 hit in 1986, and achieved similar success throughout the world.
He has many hits, such as:
1982 - "Livin' In The Limelight" #6 (Mainstream Rock) US
1986 - "Glory of Love" #1 US, #1 (Adult Contemporary) US, #3 UK (also appears on the soundtrack to The Karate Kid, Part II)

Daddy's Girl
Peter Cetera Lyrics

You say it's time for bed
She just takes her time
Acting like she never heard a word you said
Little baby want to hold you tight
She don't ever want to say good night
She's a lover, she want to be Daddy's Girl
When the morning comes
She won't let you leave, and she does her best
To try to make you stay
Pretty baby gonna start to cry
She don't ever want to say good bye
She's a lover, she want to be Daddy's Girl
She don't ever want to be without you
Never have to worry she won't doubt you
Then she puts her head upon your shoulder
Says she marry you when she get older
When the time has come, and she's old enough
To be on her own
She won't understand why you're feelin' sad
'Cause she's leaving you all alone
Little woman gonna make you cry
You don't ever want to say good bye
She's a lady, she'll always be Daddy's Girl
Little woman gonna break your heart
Gonna miss her when you're both apart
She's a lady, but she'll always be Daddy's Girl
She'll always be Daddy's Girl
She'll always be Daddy's Girl
She'll always be Daddy's Girl
She'll always be Daddy's Girl
She'll always be Daddy's Girl
She'll always be Daddy's Girl
The lyrics of Peter Cetera's song Daddy's Girl speaks of the bond between a father and his daughter. The song is about a father's unconditional love and affection towards his daughter, who is his little princess, the apple of his eye. The song depicts the father-daughter relationship as one that is unbreakable, undying, and unshakable. The lyrics talk about the little girl's reluctance to go to bed at night, and her efforts to make her father stay with her as much as possible. She clings to him, never wanting to let him go, pointing to the fact that she sees him as a source of comfort and strength.
As the little girl grows up, her father is torn between being happy for her independence and sad for losing her. Even as she ventures out on her own, the daughter will always be her father's girl, and he will always be there to offer her support and guidance.
Overall, this song celebrates the special bond between a father and his daughter. It showcases the deep love, admiration, and devotion they have for each other, and their desire to always be a part of each other's lives.
