The Mirror
Phantom of the Opera Cast Lyrics

Remember that too
Little Lotte thought: am I fonder of dolls
Or of goblins or shoes?
Or of riddles of frocks?
Those picnics in the attic
Father playing the violin
As we read to each other dark stories of the North
No, what I love best, Lotte said
Is when I'm asleep in my bed
And the Angel of Music sings songs in my head!
The Angel of Music sings songs in my head!
Insolent boy!
This slave of fashion
Basking in your glory!
Ignorant fool!
This brave young suitor
Sharing in my triumph!
Angel, I hear you!
Speak, I listen
Stay by my side, guide me!
Angel, my soul was weak
Forgive me
Enter at last, Master!
Flattering child, you shall know me
See why in shadow I hide
Look at your face in the mirror
I am there inside!
Angel of Music
Guide and guardian
Grant to me your glory
Angel of Music
Hide no longer
Come to me, strange angel
I am your angel
Come to me: Angel of Music
Whose is that voice?
Who is that in there?
I am your Angel of Music
Come to me: Angel of Music
Christine, angel!
"The Mirror" from Phantom of the Opera is a powerful and emotive song that delves into the complex relationship between Christine and the Phantom. The song starts with Little Lotte reminiscing about her childhood, where she would let her mind wander and ponder over various things like dolls, goblins, shoes, riddles, dresses, and even chocolates. She recalls fond memories of her father playing the violin and reading dark stories to her. But what she loves the most is when she's asleep in her bed and the Angel of Music sings songs in her head. It is a moment of escape and comfort for her.
The tone suddenly shifts as the Phantom, who has been listening to her thoughts and desires, interjects with disdain for the suitor she admires. He belittles the young suitor, calling him an "insolent boy" and an "ignorant fool" who is basking in his glory. The Phantom tries to assert his presence as the true guardian and mentor for Christine. He wants her to recognize him as the Angel of Music that she yearns for.
The song is a reflection of Christine's innocence and vulnerability, as well as the Phantom's possessive and manipulative nature. Through their contrasting verses, we see the stark contrast between love and control, purity and darkness, and the struggle for dominance in their relationship.

There are dozens of stage performances that were far superior to the travesty that was the movie. The only good part about the movie was Emmy’s “Wishing”

When the Phantom sings "I am there inside", I get goosebumps EVERY TIME. His voice is so raw and powerful, yet mesmerizing. idk man...it just does something to me.

I have a theory, she's not just mesmerized by his singing and paternal voice, I think the "fake fog" is a powerful hallucinogen (how else do chandeliers look like waving arms?)
What do you think?

Gerry is and always will be my #1 Phantom. Some people might think his voice is too loud or forced, but I think that his voice produces a raw texture that the Phantom should have considering he taught himself how to sing. It also sounds really mesmerizing and entrancing, especially for a guy that has never sung before. #TEAMPHANTOM
