I played this song at my wife’s funeral. She passed away in March 2012 at 45 from cancer. She loved Rod Stewart and we saw him live in concert about a year before she died. It would be our last “date” ever. She was in a great deal of pain and had a feeding tube but I could tell that she really enjoyed Rod’s (and Stevie Nick’s) performance. This was the song for my oldest son when he left the state. Unbeknownst to either of us we asked this song to be played for the mother son dance at his wedding. I found a poster on line years ago with the lyrics. I purchased it and had it framed. After visiting him, right before leaving for home, I hung it on an empty space of the wall. The only comfort I can give is to say that the missing stays, but in time you are going to cherish the warm memories you made together. They will comfort you and help you get back on track, by taking baby steps and living one day at the time. Two years ago I lost the love of my life, after being together for over 40 years. I was totally devastated, felt so cold and empty. Never expected to be a widow at 64. Now, 2 years further on the track, I can say life had its way of healing. Music and memories were my greatest comfort, next to my children ofcourse, and my grandchildren. I hope you have some great people around you to comfort you. I have always loved Rod Stewart is music is fantastic. What I like most about him. Is his lyrics are very heartfelt. My pregnancy with Joshua was extremely difficult. I ended up in ICU. My mother took him home from the hospital. I consider myself very lucky. I got to raise him. Be able to see the fine young man he turned out to be. He now is 25 years old. He is father now to my beautiful 2 year old granddaughter Everly. I hope that explains the question you are asking. Sometimes I do little too much detail. Joshua is my only child. So he is my world. When he walks into the room. My face lights up with pure joy. It has been privilege to be his Mom. He has been absolute joy to raise. Please excuse my gushing over my son.

My grandmother was only 35 when I was born, like a second mother to me. She passed in 2002 at 54. She was still young. She was still beautiful. She absolutely adored Rod Stewart. She even made my papa quiet down when he was on the radio. I love you Grandma. I'll see you again when things are done.

I am sorry to hear couldn’t image having a parent go through Alzheimer’s that young. My Grandfather George had Alzheimer’s by the time he was 70 and it progressively got worse until his death at age 84 in 2014.
