Dedication
Phil Lynott's Grand Slam Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This is dedicated to the woman I love
Wherever she stands - my dedication
This is dedicated to the millions
That are starving from hunger - in dedication

Dedication
Dedication
I dedicate it, dedicate it
Dedication

This is dedicated to the front lines that are dying
For dedication
This is dedicated to child of mine wherever she stands
I give a dedication

Dedication
Dedication
I dedicate it, dedicate it
Dedication

This is dedicated for the children
That are starving (? )
I dedicate this to the millions
I dedicate it to you

Oh yeah
A dedication
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Dedicated

This is dedicated to the woman I love
(I dedicate this song, to the woman I love)
Wherever she stands, I give her dedication
(wherever she stands)
This is dedicated, to the millions, that are starving - in dedication
(there are millions, they are starving from hunger, oh)

Dedication (I dedicate it)
Dedication (this song is for you)
I dedicate it (dedicate it), dedicate it (dedicate it)
Dedication (dedication)

Dedication (to the woman I love)
Dedication (to the child I knew)
I dedicate it (dedicate it), dedicate it (dedicate it)
Dedication (dedication)

Dedication (I dedicate it)

Overall Meaning

Phil Lynott's Grand Slam song "Dedication" is a powerful ballad of love and social awareness. As the lyrics unfold, the singer dedicates the song to two entities- the woman he loves and those who are suffering from hunger and dying on the front lines. The song opens with the declaration- "This is dedicated to the woman I love, wherever she stands." The singer then proceeds to express his deep love and commitment to her. The song then shifts its focus to the millions that are starving from hunger worldwide, and he passionately dedicates the song to them.

As the song progresses, the singer also pays tribute to those who are dying on the front lines and dedicates it to the child of his own, wherever she stands. The chorus, which repeats like a proclamation, emphasizes the act of dedication while underlining the need for such an action. The song ends with a sincere plea where the singer dedicates the song to all those suffering from hunger and its impact.

Wow seen Grand Slam twice now once with Jem and FM and once headlining. These guys reflect the true spirit of Phil and Thin Lizzy. Both times much more impressive than the last time I saw Black Star Riders.
