In 1984 for the film Electric Dreams Oakey and Moroder provided the film theme song "Together in Electric Dreams". When later released as a single it would go on to become an international hit, actually eclipsing the film it was intended to promote. Ironically it would also become a bigger hit than some of Oakey’s Human League singles of the same period.
In 1985 Oakey and Moroder would release the joint album "Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder" which would generate two single releases, “Be My Lover Now” and "Good-Bye Bad Times". Released in both the UK and USA these singles were not as successful as “Together in Electric Dreams” and the Oakey/Moroder partnership was effectively ended.[1]

You're hurting me
Valerie Valerie Valerie
Don't set me free
What shall I do when you are gone?
I'll walk around looking sad
Valerie Valerie Valerie
You're getting me down
To move into town
What do you think you'll find out there?
You might as well stay as home
Valerie Valerie Valerie
Valerie Valerie Valerie
Remember me
Misery misery misery
Is all I can see
What shall I do when you are gone?
I'm going to be so sad
Valerie Valerie Valerie Valerie

The lyrics to "Valerie" by Phil Oakey and Giorgio Moroder portray a sense of longing, hurt, and the fear of losing someone. Valerie, the subject of the song, seems to be causing the singer a great deal of emotional pain. The repetition of her name in the chorus emphasizes the intensity of this pain and the impact she has on the singer's life.
The lyrics express a desperation not to be set free from Valerie despite the hurt she causes. The singer asks what they will do when Valerie is gone and admits that they will be walking around looking sad. This suggests that Valerie holds a significant place in the singer's life, and her absence would leave them feeling lost and full of misery.
Furthermore, the lyrics touch upon Valerie's desire to move into town and the singer's doubts about whether it is necessary. They imply that Valerie may be seeking something better elsewhere, but the singer believes there is no guarantee of finding anything different or fulfilling. Ultimately, they believe that Valerie might as well stay at home.
Overall, "Valerie" is a heart-wrenching exploration of a tumultuous relationship and the fear of losing someone who is causing both pain and happiness simultaneously. It showcases the complexities of love and the emotional rollercoaster it can bring.
