Vapour Trails
Pineapple Thief Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We're flying too low.
And trying to go far.
But finding it hard.
We've your vapour trails to follow, you home.
We're flying too fast.
And finding, it won't last.
But something, must pass.
The opening lines of "Vapour Trails" by Pineapple Thief, suggest a struggle to achieve greatness. The singer laments that they're "flying too low" and "trying to go far" but seem to not be making any progress. There’s a sense of frustration and stagnation that is reflected in the following lines. The repetition of the phrase "We're flying too low" and "We're flying too fast" underscores both the singer's lack of control and the urgency to rectify the situation. The lyrics seem to be an analogy for the singer's aspirations- They want to soar but are limited by their own personal limitations.
The line "We've your vapour trails to follow, you home" is intriguing as it implies someone is leading the way. It could suggest that the singer is looking to someone else for inspiration or guidance, and they see their accomplishments as a trail to follow. The singer seems to be comforted by this, as they see a path towards success even if they're struggling at the moment. The last line "But something must pass" may suggest that while the present situation seems challenging, it is only temporary, and something better is on the horizon. Overall, the song's lyrics highlight the complexities of striving for greatness and the challenges involved in that process.

This is one of the best songs from still one of the best Pineapple Thief albums - great remix makes it sound even more dreamy and ethereal and epic all at the same time. Pity they don't play this much if at all live. If you're looking for a good starting place for the Pineapple Thief 'Variations on a Dream' would be my recommendation - trust me, you'll soon be getting their other albums.

I listen to this and it makes me wonder if Bruce Soord has the slightest idea of the level of musical genius within his persona. This piece is amongst the perfect examples of the kind of "atmospheric voyage" that 'his band', The Pineapple Thief, is able to produce. The "introductional" electric guitar is a perfect beginning to the journey.
