I Want To Know
Pointing Finger Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why a code a name a shadow is given?
I do complain 'cause I'm emotionally driven
CONSUMPTION - most borrow, some manage to save
They own you now you'll take debts to your grave
From 9 till 5 I don't call it a life
Hate your job, blame your boss and beat your wife
Why are we stuck in these daily routines?
Ends justify all means, who owns more money wins

I WANT TO KNOW - why we're caught in a cycle but never realized
I WANT TO KNOW - why a crowded mall should be our paradise
I WANT TO KNOW - why can't people see we're like steel shaped by lies

Technological progression, we must draw a line
Value regression, we're running out of time
We search for distractions, just losing our minds
Stand firm to your decisions and leave the rest behind

I WANT TO KNOW - why we're caught in a cycle, but never realized
I WANT TO KNOW - why a crowded mall should be our paradise
I WANT TO KNOW - why can't people see we're like steel shaped by lies

There's so much more I want to know, today
I WANT TO KNOW
The easy path doesn't lead us to the right way
What today we buy cheap will get expensive SOMEDAY
All systems go and we're waiting for that day

At any time
Without restrictions or definitions, just cross the line!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Pointing Finger's song I Want to Know are a reflection on the societal norms that are imposed upon individuals. The first stanza deals with the idea of being trapped in a life that is dictated by external factors. The use of code names and shadows suggests that individuals are losing their identity and being consumed by a system that they cannot control. The idea that one's life is spent from nine to five doing something that they hate, while blaming others for their unhappiness, is a common theme in modern society. The emphasis on money and the idea that the person who owns more money wins, is a reflection of the capitalist society that we live in. The chorus of the song presents the idea that people are caught in a cycle of conformity, unable to break free from the norms that have been imposed upon them. The crowded mall, meant to symbolize consumerism, is seen as a false paradise that is used to keep people content and unaware of the lies that shape their lives.

The second verse deals with technological progression and the consequences that it brings. The line "Value regression, we're running out of time" suggests that using technology to speed up processes devalues the work that is being done and leads to a loss of quality. The idea that people search for distractions, such as social media, is a reflection of the lack of fulfillment that people feel in their lives. The verse ends on a positive note, encouraging individuals to stand firm in their decisions and leave behind the distractions that are holding them back.

Overall, the lyrics of Pointing Finger's song I Want to Know are a commentary on society and the way that it shapes individuals. It highlights the conformity and lack of fulfillment that people feel, while also offering the idea that individuals can choose to break free from the norms that have been imposed upon them.

As a martial artist who crawled all the way from couch potato to almost second Dan black belt in 8+ years People often forget the opposite is true. Even me.

Yes never ever underestimate your opponent. Unless you want to marry your local dentist, surgeon, therapist and emotional support bunny 🐰 NEVER do that.
However.
That you should never overestimate your opponent.

There are good martial artists, great martial artists and bad martial artists, terrible martial artists and masters.
However, people forget that there's always someone stronger, always someone who rivals or even super eyes you. Even the masters can't be complacent, or they're not masters.
They are not obsessed by this. But they're always ready and at peace .

Everything, every human, every plant, tree, bird, snake, bear, dragon, ghost. Has a weakness, multiple multiple weaknesses even.

That's why we have diff animal fighting stykes, that's why martial arts constantly adapt.

In terms of a fight ten your opponent has advantages and you have disadvantages and flaws that terrify and demoralize you. Possibly for days, weeks on end.

But the opposite is true. Your opponent not only has those sane weaknesses that can haunt and terrify them in their dreams...but you have those amazing advantages, even if you don't know it.

Even the mightiest warrior needs to cuddle and rest up, even the grand champion needs time to heal, rest up and analyze /accept their weakpoints. Then they can come back stronger, a new man, and more unstoppable than ever before.

Classic Bruce Lee. Never take your eyes off your opponent. This is one of the first things you learn when you start sparring in martial arts. The other is "never underestimate your opponent."
