The band formed in 1977. The original line-up was Tim Worman (a.k.a Tim Polecat, vocalist), Martin "Boz" Boorer, (guitarist and vocalist, later of Morrissey's band), Phil Bloomberg (bassist), and Chris Hawkes (drummer), and originally played under the name "Cult Heroes."
Finding difficulty persuading promoters to book them on the Rockabilly circuit with a name sounding "too punk", they adopted Hawkes' suggested band name The Polecats. Hawkes was later replaced by Neil Rooney.
Make a Circuit Me

I need electricity
If you wanna make me flip
Hit me with a micro chip
I'll be a diode, cathode, electrode
Overload, generator, oscillator
Make a circuit with me
Just plug in and go-go-go
I'll be your human dynamo
Signals in my power cord
Impulse on my circuit board
I'm an AC/DC man
You can read my circuit diagram
I feed on electric jolts
I need fifty-thousand volts
A sweet romance is not for me
I really need electricity
If you wanna make me flip
Come on and hit me with a micro chip
I'm an AC/DC man
You can read my circuit diagram
I feed on electric jolts
I need fifty-thousand volts
The lyrics to Polecats' song "Make A Circuit Me" is centered around the theme of technology and electricity, as the singer expresses a desire for a partner who can match his level of energy with electricity. The first verse highlights this obsession with technology as the singer states that he has no interest in sweet romance but rather, he needs electricity. His attraction to technology is further showcased in the second verse where he describes himself as a "human dynamo" capable of receiving signals through his power cord and impulse on his circuit board.
The chorus of the song further emphasizes the singer's attraction to technology as he calls on someone to "make a circuit" with him. This highlights the need for a partner who can match his technological needs and provide him with the level of energy he requires. The last verse further drives this message home as the singer repeats his need for electricity and his preference for electric jolts rather than romance.
Overall, the song can be seen as a commentary on the growing obsession with technology and the need for constant stimulation. It highlights how technology has become such an integral part of our lives that even our romantic relationships are not immune to its impact.
